Photoshop: Layer id/rank number idea

When there are too many layers in Photoshop, and you want to drag a folder or a layer into another one, it can be really problematic to locate it. What would you say to a feature that assigns an automatic ID/rank number to layers, which could be enabled/disables via the preferences tab? Perhaps as shown below:

Yep. With my move from fireworks to photoshop, using layer comps, I get lost quick.

Layer search doesn't help you drag a layer from the top of the stack to a group 2/3rds the way down of a 250-layer file. Turning on a layer number via preferences would aid in a task like that.

I do screen interface comps and am often auto selecting layers elsewhere in my stack, making a copy, then dragging the copy to the spot it needs to be in the stack. Turning on numbered layers (much like the numbers alongside lines of code) would be helpful.
