Photoshop: Save For Web hangs or ends unexpectedly

Photoshop CS5 Windows 32 bit/Windows 7
when saving an animated gif file under "save for web and devices" Photoshop hangs or closes unexpectedly. Most often PS just hangs and must be shutdown via task manager. This happens either when unchecking transparency or while actually writing the file. At this point I cannot create the files I need to. Please advise.

We need more details to see if we can reproduce the problem.

What size document? How many frames in the animation?

Could you send us the file that fails to save?

Are you saving to local directory on your computer or to a network drive/computer?

You could try resetting the Save For Web preferences:

http://feedback.photoshop.com/photosh...

and/or Photoshop's preferences:

http://adobe.ly/PS_Prefs

Let us know if either of those work.

Thanks for looking into this, the files are being saved to a network drive, I will try a local drive and see if that helps. It still has the same behavior saving local or network. One of the files I'm working with now is just under 11.3mb with 56 frames and 11 layers. I have tried deleting the "save for web" prefs file. Interestingly, it seems like there may be a message box behind the "Save for Web" dialog box that is looking for input, I say this because if I click either the "Save for Web" dialog box or PS I hear a bing sound, also I have found that when hung if I press Enter the "Save for Web" dialog box comes back and I can try again or close the box.

Thanks again

And have you installed all the updates for Photoshop (12.0.4 or 12.1)?
