Photoshop: Future Performance: Chips and Cores, etc.

Are you guys able to give a hint as to what facets of processors PS will best utilize in future editions?

For instance, if one is buying new hardware what should we expect to yield better results in PS CS6: clock speed or multiple cores. Is the step up to i7 chips justified?

It's confusing because looking at this page of iMac performance it looks like the i5 chips yield greater performance than the i7 "upgrade" option. One might not mind paying extra for better performance, but not for worse.

And should we expect PS and Lightroom to be moving in similar directions in this regard?
