Photoshop: Freezing with red lines in the image after adjusting text or using paint brush?

I'm using Photoshop CC, when I try to add text or use certain tools Photoshop locks up and closes but only with certain files, not all my graphic files. I have Photoshop CS3 on an older computer and the same thing happens with those same files. Is this issue with Photoshop or is there an issue with these files...there's well over 100+ of these files and I've tried to add text or color to 10 of them, all with the same result, freezing with red lines in the image, then Photoshop will close. Any ideas?

Are you on Mac or Windows? It sounds like graphics driver issue on windows.

Windows, could be graphics, just odd that it only happens with certain files, I've been working the last 3 hours with other files, no issues. I can look for an update

Determine what video card you have and go directly to the manufacturers website (nVidia or ATI/AMD) and download the latest driver: http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/201...

After you have the latest driver, Try restoring your preferences: http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/201...

If doing both of those doesn't help, select Edit>Preferences>Performance... and click [Advanced Settings...]. Set the Drawing Mode to "Basic" and restart Photoshop.
