When I select a photo to print, Photoshop Elements wants to send a fax instead. I only have one printer, which is a printer/fax, and I make sure that I have the printer - not the fax - selected. How can I get Elements to recognize the printer and not the fax???

I have just installed an HP photosmart premium C410b printer. It works fine on all applications except my Photoshop Elements 8, where it allows me to set up a print but when I click on print it opens the fax dialogue window. Has anybody else seen this and solved it?

When trying to print a photo, Photoshop is sending it to the fax even though the printer is selected. Any ideas?

The name of the printers is too long, and elements can not tell the difference between the printer and the fax so it picks the first one that it finds, which is always the fax.
If you go into Devices and Printers, right click on the fax and rename it, for example HPfax, then Elements won't be able to find it anymore and will choose the priner instead.

Fantastic help on this page. Changing the name of the fax machine fixed my problem with my all in one HP Officejet Pro 8500. Nothing on the HP sites helped. Thank you all so much.

Photoshop elements 10 will not let me print. It sends my work to the fax printer even after I removed it from my list of devices. I had to save my work to the desktop them open it with another program to get it to print! This is sorry software and I was a fool to not just upgrade my old software.

What I did was change the name of the fax printer, and that fixed it. Mind you to get it to really print properly, I gave up on Elements and got Photoshop. Perhaps its a cunning plot?

I downloaded the Trial of Photoshop Elements 10. Each time i try to print a picture, it opens my FAX printer and not my regular printer. I use HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909a series. My printer works with all my other software that is installed on my PC, but in Photoshop Elements 10 (the trial), it does not recognise my printer. If this cannot be solved, I am totally NOT impressed by Photoshop elements or its quality and will NOT buy it. What is the use of a photoshop program if it cannot decently print using your already installed printer???

My new photoshop elements 10 intermittently does not recognize my HP officejet pro 8500 wireless printer and generates an error message that a printer must be installed. (there are 3 printers installed and it sees none of them). When it does see the printer it sees it as a fax not a printer.

PSE 10 goes to Fax Dialog Box when trying to print. All settings indicate going to the right printer. How do I stop it going to Fax?

I've designated photoshop elements to print all image types. However, when going to print any format from elements, I'm asked to confgure the fax information so that a fax can be sent. The software does seem to be able to print from the organizer, but I am not interested in stopping what I'm doing to add every document to the organizer when I want to print. I do not want, use or need the organizer since all work is rendered useless if the software has to be reloaded. Has someone found a solution to the printing bug? Also I'd like to give a shout out to the two adobe phone reps that hung up on me--nice work fellas. . .

SG follow up. Received a very courteous email response from Adobe today that identified the root cause and solution. Easy fix to just differentiate the driver name was offered. Problem solved. Thanks.

On top of this toppic, the answer to our problem, as Brett N explains, is to rename the Fax to a shorter name. WTH ? can't they just update their software to deal with this? I already dismissed the software before I heard about their 'solution' and I am not returning to it.

As we can see, this issue doesn't happen with all dual purpose devices, but specifically the HP 410. There are separate drivers for the print and fax functions of this machine. HP has decided to not only name them almost identically, but to use incredibly long names that get truncated by the system. In this truncation lies the problem, the text that uniquely identifies and separates the print from the fax functions has been cut off and the first device on the list gets passed by Windows to Photoshop Elements. By renaming the device, the truncation no longer causes an issue.

I recently purchased Photoshop10 that runs on an IBM T60.
My default printer is HP LJ300-400 color MFP M375-M475. It is an office printer that multi-tasks (scans, faxes, copies et cetera)
I try printing & the application pulls up my FAX driver; all other applications print with no issues.
