Elements lacking "Curves..." and "Color Balance..." tools

I am a long time user of Photoshop and I am a photographer who shoots all film and mostly medium format. I shoot mostly color negative film and I develop my own black and white and scan all my negatives myself.

This year I came to the realization that my day to day workflow with Photoshop involves the use of only the Crop tool, the Curves... tool, the Color Balance... tool and the Healing Brush. To me these are basic functions in a vast and complex software package. I recently decided that instead of upgrading I would purchase Photoshop Elements because surely the *elements* must include these four functions. I was wrong.

I don't really understand how a basic simple software like Elements could not include these basic simple tools when Hue & Saturation and Replace Color tools ARE included.

This is ridiculous to me and has made me question my decades long allegiance to Adobe.

Is this oversight going to be addressed? These two missing tools are not worth my spending another $400 and I will just get by with my older version of Photoshop but what a shame Adobe would use the word Elements in a tool so lacking in them.

Curves are not called a »Tool« in Photoshop naming.

You bought the software without first testing it in the 30 day trial Adobe offers for most of its products as far as I know?
Due diligence would have indicated otherwise and your justification for complaining now seems weak.

What would you prefer? Curves »Adjustment« ... Googling the subject seems to suggest it is most often called the Curves Tool or the Curves Adjustment Tool in tutorials and postings.

But besides that your comment is pretty unrelated since I am complaining about the philosophy behind the product not the price. I am not seeking a refund but rather an explanation since I see it as an oversight.

For your peace of mind let's say I have not purchased it and my comment is during my 30 day trial. Fair enough?

Some people also use »photoshop« as a verb ...
As far as I understand Photoshop naming conventions the Tools are called »tools« and that’s it.

I apologize for misinterpreting your message otherwise.

No problem... maybe I wasn't clear enough that I believe Elements should have the basic photo correction tools and in my opinion Curve and Color Balance adjustments as basic.

anyway, oliver, isn't Adobe moving its softwares to be used online via subscription (or maybe a pay-as-you-go system?)
you're right, like most manufacturers have done in the past & will continue doing, Elements is designed down, not as a stand alone product but as a way to get you in the door, in the hope you'll buy the full version by way of frustration.
Apple is preventing my "old" MacBookPro from running CS6 bc it refuses to update to the most recent OS, to my chagrin.
Apple's answer? "buy a new computer."

you're probably right.

i just thought elements was a product for photographers who were not doing *too* much to their photos. when it dawned on me that for my purist reasons i do not do *too* much it seemed like a perfect match. but to have about 2/3 of the adjustments available but not include curves and color as a way to globally manipulate the image just seems short sighted.

maybe i'll follow Apple's advice and set up a wet color dark room ;-)

also i did a demo of CS6 and it is a dog on my 2-3 year old computers. i was hoping Elements might have less overhead and perform better which it did.

you know, you'd be surprised by how much one can do with as simple an app as Preview... it can even handle RAW format.
