I think they'll need more info to help you.

Which OS version?
Have you installed all updates?

What exactly are you seeing? Any errors? Does the app launch? Does a window open at all?

Sorry, Win XP Service Pack 3; I reinstalled from my original disk because the program stopped opening my images.

I do not get an error report and no window opens. When I open the program, I do get the Welcome screen with organize and edit. When I try to open edit or organize, I exit from the Welcome screen and the program.

I also have Windows Premiere Elements 9 and that opens fine.

What exactly happens when you try to open a file?
Does that document show up in the window menu?
Have you had a second display attached recently, and now not connected?
And what do you mean by "exit from the welcome screen and program"?

Hi Chris,

The file, jpg, will not open, however, if I go to Task Manager, I see that Photoshop is using plenty of RAM but does not appear as an open application.

I have not attached a second display.

If I try to open edit or organize from the welcome screen, nothing happens.

An application can't use RAM unless it is running. Your description still doesn't make a lot of sense.

Does the application not launch?

Or what exactly happens when the editor application is already running and you try to open a file from inside the editor?

The system considers the application open but I can not use it. If I try to open an image in Photoshop, nothing happens. If I try to open the editor from the welcome page, nothing happens or, in some instances, the welcome page disappears with no editor.

In addition, I reinstalled Photoshop because the program was freezing and not opening for me.

OK, now we're getting closer.

So launching the editor shows the welcome page, but then doesn't draw any UI afterward.

Have you tried deleting or resetting the preferences for the editor? See http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elem...

Hi Chris,

I could not get the settings file to open, however, an update came from Adobe this AM for both Elements and Premiere Elements. Both installed and when I went to open an image, Elements started to load but then hung on "Initializing shared components...." I eventually got a Windows message that the program is not responding.

Thank you.

The settings file doesn't "open". You either use the keys to make the app reset preferences, or trash the existing preferences file -- see the link I posted yesterday.

OK, the most likely suspect there is corrupt fonts, or a corrupt OS font cache.

I receive this universal message from Windows: "You chose to end the nonresponsive program, PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe."
