Elements: PSE 11 I can't download my Facebook friends list (new 1/2013)

Much like in this old instance, I'm now not able to download my Facebook friends. I've made multiple attempts, used a new catalog, left it trying to download FB Friends for 2 hrs, removed FB authentication/permissions (on the FB-side) then re-authenticated, but nothing works. It just sits there with the blue activity indicator moving round and round for hours with no result. Previously, on another computer, I've successfully downloaded and re-downloaded my Facebook friends multiple times.

Similar to this 1yr old/solved problem below. Seems to have recurred.

I'm using Adobe Elements 11 Organizer (v11.0) on Mac OS X 10.8.2.

Are there server issues? Are the servers monitored and alert your operations team if/when there's issues?

Thanks,
Andreas

We don't maintain any servers with your friends from Facebook. Rather, this function contacts Facebook directly to gather this information. So if there is a problem with servers, it is a problem if Facebook servers.

However, I doubt anything of the sort is the case. As you mention, this worked just fine on your other computer. So what is different on this computer? Well, the computer itself. More importantly it has different software installed and different settings for that software.

The most likely cause for an issue like this is your firewall or anti-virus (or other security software) is blocking Photoshop Elements from making a connection to the internet (what this kind of software does for a living) because it perceives it as a threat.

Try temporarily disabling your security software to see if it is blocking Photoshop Elements. If you are more familiar with your security software, you can create an exception for PSE instead.

Same problem, no resolution. I've even added PSE 11 public access through my firewall, rebooted, and still nothing.

How long does it take for PSE to download approximately 500 Facebook contacts? What is it downloading (just names or also pictures to analyze to help auto-detect individuals)? Is there any way of knowing if data is actually moving and the progress? I rebooted my machine, verified PSE still has explicit firewall permission, and started the download from Facebook over one hour ago and it sill shows the status bar cycling (moving in a loop) but no "progress" indication. It shouldn't take very log, because it is simply grabbing names. No photos (the Facebook photo system is far too complex for that). I'm sure that the issue isn't that it is actually taking a long time to download the names, but that the process is still blocked. Although you have given the overall application a certain amount of leeway with the firewall doesn't mean that the ports it may be trying to use are unblocked. Have you tried simply disabling the firewall altogether (temporarily)?

Hi Jimmy,
The downloaded Facebook contacts are saved at (on win7 x64):
C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Elements Organizer\11.0\Organizer\OLS\facebook-contactList.xml

If the progress dialog is taking long time, Please rename 'OLS' folder (mentioned in above folder hierarchy) and initiate this workflow again.
