Photoshop CS6 "Profile Mismatch" warning on PhotoMatix files with same profile name (but wrong profile content)

Hi,

issue: when I open a merged 32 bit tif file in Photoshop CS6 I get an "Embedded
Profile Mismatch" warning, see

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/23843309/pro...

Such files are generated using Photomatix "Merge to 32 bit HDR" 4.2.5 /
1.02 according to

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/23843309/lre...

So I export with color space ProPhoto, Photoshop detects ProPhoto and
warns me that there is a profile mismatch. I do not understand this.

When I merge several images to 32 bit images with PS Merge to HDR Pro, save the 32 bit file, return to LR, and "Edit Original" from LR again, then I do NOT receive this "Embedded
Profile Mismatch" warning.

I have written to the Photomatix support and they also do not understand why PS would like to convert the profile. They have written "Normally, the Merge to 32-bit HDR plug-in embeds the color profile of the source photos into the resulting 32-bit TIFF. So, when Lightroom is set to export the source photos with ProPhoto RGB like in your settings, then that's the one that Lightroom embeds into them and thus, into the 32-bit TIFF file."

Photomatix Support recommended to ask Adobe for help/advice/support.

Thanks.

Best regards

If Photoshop says there is a profile mismatch, then the contents of the profile do not match your working space, and you have Photoshop set to warn you when that happens.

It means that the profile in the file you are opening does not match your working space profile, despite having the same name. If you post one of the files, I can take a look at the profile and see what PhotoMatix is doing wrong.

Hi Chris,

thanks for the fast reply.

Please find at

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/23843309/gen...

a file generated with Photomatix "Merge to 32 bit HDR" 4.2.5 / 1.02. When you open this file in PS CS6 you will see the "Embedded Profile Mismatch" warning.

PhotoMatix embedded the raw ProPhoto profile - including it's gamma 1.8 TRC tags in a 32 bit/channel floating point image that has a gamma of 1.0. (and gamma encoding floating point image data would just mean that someone doesn't understand gamma or floating point)

Photoshop converted the ProPhoto profile to gamma 1.0 so it would work with the 32 bit/channel image - so it doesn't match the profile in the file.

Basically, PhotoMatix is embedded the wrong profile for the data in the file. They need to change the gamma to match the actual contents of the file.
