Photoshop CS6 has started crashing when the save dialog comes up. This makes it completely unusuable. Windows 8. Worked fine until today. It just freezes and becomes completely unresponsive to the keyboard or mouse. Have tried restarting etc.

Fixed! Updating it didn't fix it. Uninstalling and reinstalling didn't fix it the 1st time - however the 2nd time I looked more closely and there was an option on uninstall to remove all data. I did that and apart from losing ALL of my extensive customization it now works.

Thanks for closing the loop. Sounds like a preference issue. Restoring the prefs may have been possible solution.

Use the control-alt-shift key combination, or more the preferences folder elsewhere (in cause we need a copy for debugging, or that doesn't solve the problem you can move it back).

This happens to me almost daily. I've submitted numerous crash reports about it.

Hmm. Is your email for getsatisfaction the same one you use when submitting crash reports? (so I can look them up)

Most of your reports are from filters or operations in dialogs, due to a re-entrancy problem in MacOS event handling (which we're testing a fix for).

I found your reports from saving a file. It's not one of our top buckets, but something in the code looks fishy and I'll get someone to investigate.

I am having this same problem with Windows 7 with both PS6 and PSCC as well as Lightroom 4 and 5. Doesn't happen all the time but regularly enough that it is a workflow problem.

Then you have a different problem and need to post a new topic about it so we can help you without cluttering up an unrelated topic.

OK - looks like this is a much easier way to restore preferences than uninstall/reinstall:

I disabled background saving, and I haven't been getting crashes when I save.

iMatt, do you by chance use MacKeeper or Clean My Mac or any OS clean-up utilities?
