Photoshop CS6 Crashes when saving for web

I'm having a problem exporting PNGs and I'm on a Mac running the most current OSX. I had no problem with CS3 and then upgraded to 5.5 last week and it kept crashing on save for web... I upgraded to CS6 2 days ago hoping it would fix it but I can't save for web at all without crashing. tried PNG-24 - crash, tried PNG-8 - crash, tried GIF - crash! I've been sending the reports to Adobe but have had no response.

I have a large project I'm working on designing an app and I can't use CS6 at all... I go back to CS3 and it's fine. does anybody have any ideas?

That's odd - the only SFW crashes I can find are from people loading the CS5 plugins by mistake and invoking the wrong version of the plugin.

if that's what it is, how do I fix it? can I delete CS 5.5 or do I have to figure out how to uninstall it?

I'm not sure the problem is the plugins because I had the same issue using CS5 which I only had installed for a week before upgrading to CS6

I uninstalled CS5, reinstalled CS6 and ran disk repair... didn't fix it. so, basically I can't use Photoshop CS6 if I want to SFW?

Wait - why did you post here AND add to another, unrelated topic as well?

it was the only thing I could find that was similar to my problem and then I realized I should just add my own separate string...

I had Creative Suite CS3 and never had any problems. I finally saved up the money to upgrade a couple of weeks ago and bought CS5.5 from Adobe, installed it a week and a half ago and started having issues. every time I tried to save for web, photoshop would crash when it got to the screen where you name the file and pick destination folder. it crashed as soon as it got to that screen. I then got an email from Adobe that I could upgrade to creative suite CS6 which I did. I was hoping it would fix the issue, it didn't. same exact problem. I can still go back to CS3 though and save for web from it with no problems.

you suggested it was a plugin problem, so I uninstalled CS5 and reinstalled CS6 but it's still doing the same thing. so far I'm only having problems with Photoshop. but I can still go back to CS3 and SFW no problem. also, when I open the plugin folder in Photoshop CS6 in my applications folder, it's empty.

if it's an OSX problem, why is CS3 working fine?

CS3 used different APIs. CS5 and CS6 use the Cocoa APIs, which still has a lot of bugs.

Yes, the CS6 plugins folder is supposed to be empty on a clean install -- the Adobe plugins were moved to the required folder.

ok... so how does this get fixed? do I need to call apple? do I just keep using CS3 if I need to SFW and wait and see if the next OSX gets the bugs worked out?

Well, if you are indeed seeing one of the FinderKit or AppKit bugs -- then you hope that DiskUtility can solve it, or wait for Apple to release a fix in the OS.

I ran disk utility after starting up from startup disc and it didn't fix anything. I think I'll try contacting apple tomorrow. thanks for your help
