Photoshop CS6 crashes on closing the application in OS X 10.9.2

Photoshop CS6, running in Mavericks OS X 10.9.2, periodically crashes when I close the application (about every third time), freezing my MacBook Pro. I have to shut the computer down and restart. When I close Photoshop, all image windows are closed and I close from the menu command rather than command+Q. The app crashes no matter how I close the program.

Extensis Suitcase 5, version 16.2.0, is installed. I followed Extensis' directions on setting it up for compatibility with Design Creative Suite CS6. I don't know if Extensis is the problem since Photoshop doesn't crash every time I close the application. I've read through some discussion topics and it seems that "plug-ins" are blamed for a lot of issues in Photoshop. Why?

In the topic title I used Sentence case, not ALL CAPS. I changed it since Adobe issued a warning that I was "shouting." Sentence case is not ALL CAPS. There is a difference!

We need to see the crash report to know why it is crashing.

But if the entire machine hangs, that means it is not a Photoshop problem - but a system problem. Applications cannot cause the system to hang, shut down or reboot - only OS bugs, low level driver bugs, and hardware defects can cause that to happen.

Extensis does install some OS hooks at the driver level -- you may want to try turning it completely off and see if that solves the problem.

And plugins are blamed for a lot of problems because they have a lot of bugs, and people don't update their plugins to pick up bug fixes. After Adobe has fixed the majority of their bugs, what remains are OS bugs and third party plugin or driver bugs.
