Boilerplate-text:
Are Photoshop and OS fully updated and have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, cleaning caches, font validation, etc.)?

Do you mean Lighting Effects? Or are you talking about a third party plugin filter?

Hi Christoph,

Yes everything is on the latest version: Windows 7 Enterprise and I have a subscription version of Photoshop CS6.

I tried the ctrl-alt-shift trick but no luck

OK, then most likely you're looking at a video card driver bug.
What GPU are you using?
And have you updated the driver recently?

It must be something in my system. I have installed it on a new, faster laptop and it works!

Thanks for all the help
