Photoshop CS6: Context menu on layers too large

Since Photoshop CS6, the context menu (rightclick) on a layer has way more entries. Like the colors (no color, red to grey), postcard and new 3d extrusion. How do I get rid of those? I don't need them there and I don't want them there, they mess up the whole context menu completely. I couldn't find those entries anywhere in "Edit / Menus". Why not? That Edit Menus thingy seems to be somewhat incomplete in general.

I wholeheartedly agree with this post. Entirely too much real estate is devoted to "layer colors" and "thumbnail size" on the context menus, making it harder to locate often-used commands like duplicate, delete and merge.

Suggestion #1: Provide an option under Edit/Preferences/Interface/Options that allows the user to hide unavailable menu commands... ideally with separate choices for main menu and panel/context menus. Suggestion #2: In addition, allow user to edit hide/view/color status for items on the context menus, not just the app and panel menus.

Suggestion #3: Reduce clutter in the context menus by dividing the layer context menu options more effectively among the various "cells" of a layer in the layer pallette. The only context menu where the layer color and thumbnail size needs to appear is on the "eyeball" cell for that layer. Similarly, if Adobe created a clearly-defined "effects" cell on the right-hand side of the layer row (instead of simply showing the fx logo there), then Adobe could move all the style-and-effects-related options to the fx cell's context menu.

Any of these suggestions would help reduce the layer context menu clutter, all of them together would be wonderful.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Photoshop CC: Layers palette context menu UI confusing.

A bunch of stuff was added in CC and as much as I love new tools, the layers pallet UI seems externally poorly thought out:

I selected the same few layers but in different order and got these two extremely crowded and different menus (as well as hard to understand) when right clicking on the same layer. How do I get rid of everything in red (stuff that's not needed). I didn't see it listed in preferences. Is it there somewhere?

I wish they had merged the CS6 thread into the CC-related thread, rather than the other-way around, as the problem still exists in CC (as of Nov 2015).
