Photoshop: Vector Shapes & path highlight/selection issue

Hi there,

Photoshop CS5

1.Vector shape have color area and vector mask visible - http://screencast.com/t/hVB2H7ceqp
2. Selecting the later do not affect the visibility of the actual shape - http://screencast.com/t/YkmJlsLRNX
3. Selecting the vector mask gives us the visual representation that mask is selected - http://screencast.com/t/Iq4P9Qgp9

Photoshop CS6 beta

1. Vector shape have a single icon - http://screencast.com/t/ptBpMRYup
2. When select the layer the vector mask is automatic selected too - http://screencast.com/t/dm1WjibiTZ
This is frustrating because it is hard to set layer styles properly, the additional "stroke" that comes from the selected layer mask visuals mess the things up.

Please can you find a way to select vector shapes without selecting the actual vector mask too, this was perfectly developed in Photoshop CS5.

Thanks!

Regards,
SK

Another email I got from an employee at Adobe. They are fully aware:

"Unfortunately, I can’t give out information about updates or scheduling, but the best info I can give you is that we do read and listen to feedback and are not planning to ignore the issue. I know that probably doesn’t help you much, but it’s all I can share at the moment".

Hi all,

We made some changes in the 13.0.1 update that will hopefully help with the issues here. First of all, path outlines no longer display when in the Layer Styles dialog. Also, if you have a shape layer active and select a non-vector tool, the path outline will not display.

We are always continuing to refine the behavior of paths and shapes in Photoshop, so thank you for your feedback.

Just downloaded the update that fixed this problem. The path is now only visible when the Direct Select Tool (A) is enabled, and hidden when the Move Tool (V) is enabled. Now I can toggle visibility on a layer without the path becoming highlighted again!

Thank you Adobe team for a quick response to this matter.

When does this get pushed to Creative Cloud Photoshop x64? My Adobe Application Manager isn't showing any update and I'm quite eager to get this one...

Works fine for me and using the same version - 64bit on Win 7. Updated via Help > Updates which booted App Manager. Just check in App Manager preferences that you have the Photoshop CS6 (64 bit) box checked so it checks for that specific update. Otherwise try a re-start.

Which country are you from? Maybe its not rolled out there for you yet and you might have to wait a little while. If its UK (like me) then its rolled out, in which case either try a restart, wait a day or so or contact tech support.

Thanks! Going through Help > Updates seems to refresh the list and I have updates for a few apps. Weird that the App Manager doesn't fetch it on its own. Australia is my Adobe subscription.

Hi! would it be a stretch to ask for photoshop to listen to it's own "hide extra's" command as a global toggle?

Right now Photoshop says "Sure, you just hid the extra's, but *now* you activated a layer while you had the direct selection tool active, so I'm sure I can ignore the toggle you just set." I verified, and it gets merrily *CHECKED* when I select a layer with the direct selection tool.

In short: selecting a layer with the direct selection tool does *NOT* constitute me re-enabling the "show extra's" toggle. I have a shortcut for it. That I'm using. Happily.

So, either please fix this behavior, or add an option to "Do not enable show extra's when activating a layer with the direct selection tool". And no, the "show target path" does not alleviate this.

I got a lot of problems with the new path system in photoshop 6. There's some cool new features but others that are very annoying to me especially because it woked perfectly in CS5
The paths are always visible when selected, theres no way to hide it definitely. Even if I'm hidding it using Ctrl+Shift+H.
If I'm putting a mask on a path and I want flip them horizontaly. Pressing Ctrl+T and writing -100,00% in the top bar, it flips the path but not the mask, even if they are linked.

Hi, this is *NOT* fixed.
• View > Extras
and
• View > Show > Target Path
still get toggled when I use to the Direct selection tool.
Let alone the Z-order of selecting shapes... but that's another thread.

Worse, it's inconsistent. The View > Extras is turned on when there are no guides in the document, and the toggle is left alone when there are guides in the document. Is there any kind of interaction hierarchy to this behavior? Because I fail to see it.

Jeffrey, this is in the very latest update (Retina is amazing to work with!).

Well....... NOW IT'S ALL BACK TO BROKEN AGAIN IN CC.

Way to go. On top of all of the above issues, vector point selection and manipulation is now all glitchy and broken as well.

What is the problem with leaving things the way the users have CLEARLY said they want them?

I honestly don't even have the energy to describe all of this again.

I'm loathed to say this Brandon but all seems fine to me (for once!).

What's the specific problem/s you're getting now?
