Photoshop: Pencil tool ignores brush hardness setting

For some reason the brush hardness setting does not work in the CS6 64-bit version of Photoshop on my System. In the CS6 32-bit version as well as both, the 64bit and 32bit CS5 versions everything works just fine. Problem can be best seen in the two screen shots below.

System is a Win7 Ultimate, English locale installed, Phenom II processor, 8gb ram, Nvidia Geforce GTS450, Wacom Intuos4, all installed drivers ar latest versions as of June 6.

New CS6 install. No settings changed, except for trying to disable the GPU acceleration in the 64-Bit version. This did not help either.

Anyone got any idea what I'm doing wrong here?

You have the pencil tool selected, not the brush tool -- and it is always 100% hardness.

OK, you are right. No I feel more than just a little stupid...

Shouldn't try things when I'm tired! ;-)
