Photoshop: Preferences reverts back to default after using adobe updater (12.0.4)

I'm having a problem when I update any adobe product through adobe updater. After doing so, my photoshop CS5 (12.0.4) reverts to default settings after a restart. All my brushes disappear, history states goes back to 20, etc. Basically all my preferences revert to default preferences. Any idea what's going on here?

Hi Matthew,

That's really strange. I've seen this happen if Photoshop doesn't quit properly. Are you on Mac or Windows? (Version would be helpful, too)

The updater explicitly avoids touching preferences, and I haven't heard of other users losing their preferences after updating.

I'm on a Mac v. 10.6.7. The first time it happened I updated AE and In Design through the updater. After the update was complete I opened photoshop and my preferences reverted back to default. The second time it happened is when I updated Photoshop to 12.0.4. After opening photoshop my preferences were again set back to default.

I have no idea how that could happen -- the updaters don't touch Photoshop's prefs in any way.

I'm puzzled as well. I thought it was a fluke the first time it happened. But when it happened the second time in the same manner i figured something had to be up.

Try this, Open Photoshop, Change your pref history states. Close Photoshop, relaunch. Let me know if that setting stuck.
