Photoshop CS5 and CS6: Keyboard freezing on MacBook Pro

I am running a 17" MacBook Pro 2.93 Core 2 Duo 8GB OS X 10.8.2

My keyboard on my Mac laptop would freeze after using the Selection Tool on PS5 or PS6 forcing me to reboot in order to have keyboard working again.

This problem seems inconsistent. I am a learner of Photoshop and have been trying to follow tutorials. This is what's happening to me: While using the Selection Tool, once it's starts doing weird things (such as things not in tutorials), I will notice that my keyboard commands has become unresponsive. And I will not be able to type text into my Mail, Notes or any other program. Only the mouse would still work properly. Sometimes I would have to force a reboot.

This problem ONLY happens when I run CS5 or CS6. What is going on and does anyone have a solution?

I appreciate your feedback and help. Thank you.

An application cannot alter the keyboard behavior that way, or affect keyboard input in other applications.

The only things that could cause the keyboard to malfunction and require a reboot are: the hardware, the OS, or a low level driver.

It's probably not the OS, since other people don't see that behavior.
So that leaves a driver conflict, or the hardware.

Thank you Chris. Now, why would the keyboard freeze ONLY when I run PS5 or PS6?

Is there anyone else out there that have a driver conflict when running Photoshop? What did you do to fix the problem?

Without knowing what driver problem or hardware problem you have on your system, I don't know why Photoshop would trigger it.

But the problem as you described could not be caused by an application program.
