recently while using Photoshop CC, after about 2 min - an hour of using it. my keyboard completely stops working, only with this program, i've taken my laptop to apple and from their end everything looks fine. i re-installed my intire computer but still having problems with photoshop CC. uninstalled Photoshop CC and re-installed it again. and after a half hour my keyboard stopped working. and even after i save and close my work with the mouse, the keyboard won't work till I restart my macbook pro. with college having just resumed, I can't have my computer being repaired at apple. and I was walked through how to see if it's a hardware problem and it didn't seem to happen on a guest user, so it must be software problem. could you please advise what i should do?

Hi Tyler,

There could be a number of causes to the problem you are describing. First, what version of Mac OS are you running? Next, do you ever use the Dictation application? Also, do you have any tablet or enhanced-mouse connected? What about screen-capture software or resident programs that monitor input?

There's nothing in Photoshop that could lock your keyboard, but there are application which could hijack keyboard controls. Also, are you sure only Photoshop is locked up or are other applications also lacking keyboard control? Generally, people "find bugs" in Photoshop which are caused by other sources not cuz PS is buggy, but because they use the app for long stretches of time and it tends to exercise more of the OS than other applications do.

I'm happy to trouble-shoot with you further if you need it.

Thanks,
David

mac version 10.7.5.
never heard of the Dictation application (well aside from now)
once the keyboard locks up when using photoshop, it doesn't work on anything else, even after i save my work via clicking the save button with a bluetooth mouse,(was originally using a USB gamer mouse, but that caused it to happen faster)
I went to apple and asked them to trouble shoot it when this first started to happen they did and said everything was ok from what they saw. but after this happened in class when i was showing a teacher a piece of work. i am now sending it into apple for repair and getting a loner OS from the college

Hi Tyler,

What you are describing sounds like a general OS-level problem with one or more pieces of software interacting poorly with your keyboard. If this were only a Photoshop bug, then the keyboard would work outside of Photoshop. If you have multiple mice installed, check for side-car apps that co-opt keystrokes. That's usually the cause of these kinds of problems.

Good luck,
David

Thank you for your help David.

in the end, after waiting at the apple store for two hours of going through every possible thing that it could be they wiped my computer again and this time they said to not restore from time-machine. but re-install everything and start fresh. i can take files off of the TM but not to restore from it. they figured it was software... so i told them that both sides (being apple and adobe) are saying it isn't them. so i've had to re-install everything on my macbook pro (v/10.8.5) and things seem to be alright.

anywho thanks
-Tyler
