Photoshop CC bug.
I create a file with let's say 200 layers. I save it as PSD with no problems.
Then I save the same file again as .PDF (2001/X1). It saves the PDF just fine.

When closing the PSD file ALL LAYERS in the PSD are combined to 1 Layer (which it probably did when saving the PDF as Copy w/out Layers)...

We just lost 4 days of work.

I could not reproduce the issue.
Can you reproduce it?

What were the settings in the Save As dialog?

When you saved the PDF, you saved without layers.
When you saved the PSD, the save dialog remembered the "no layers" setting and you failed to turn it back on.

Are you sure the »Layers« checkbox is sticky in the Save-dialog?
And would the save then not have to change to a »As a Copy« meaning that when the file got closed the »Save changes ...« dialog would have been prompted?

Yes, it is sticky - we've seen this happen before. Sometimes I think we need extra large neon warning dialogs.

No point arguing with you obviously, it just has not happened to me to the best of my recollection.

Anyway, are warning dialogs really a match for users’ inattentiveness, routine, hurried working, ... and the occasional »don’t show again«-checkbox?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled PSD not saved with PDF creation. PS should treat PDF just like JPEG file creation....

Saving file as PDF )flat) erases PSD (layered) version. Can we prevent this from happening easily? The flat PDF should be saved without changing the file for the PSD. It's only logical. When we save the file as a JPG we don't lose the PSD, so why with the PDF? Numerous times over my years of using PS this has happened. It's not intuitive...and it should be as it is with other file formats.

Saving the PDF doesn't change the PSD file, or your document in memory. But when you Save As a PSD after saving as PDF and fail to enable layers - then you will lose your layers.

Actually, they are treated the same. You chose not to save layers, then the save dialog remembered that choice, and you did not change that choice.
