Photoshop CC (2014) Can't Sync/Upload settings

  • Updated 3 years ago
After Installing CC 2014.0.0 and imported all my setting from 14.2.1 i wanted to sync/upload my settings from 2014.0.0. the upload starts but after a while i get "can't connect to creative cloud" error. i tried many times, sometimes it can upload up to 7 MB but not anymore. Also the full upload varies between 90MB and 170MB?

by the way i really like that now we can chose between upload and download!

are the settings for the different versions kept separately on the Cloud or they will be messed up after i upload the slightly different settings from CC(2014)

is there someone with the same issue?

Something is preventing your system from connecting to Adobe's cloud servers.
It could be a firewall, bad antivirus software, bad host table entries, bad router, etc. on your system or network.

hi chris,

i don't have firewall turned on.
i don't think the router is a problem, i'm online all the time and don't have any issues connecting. i uploading and downloading Gigabites all the time. also the internet connection here is quite fast and stable.

also no problems syncing the settings from CC 14.2.1

there should be something related to the new version.
just now i could upload my settings, but only after unchecking "patterns" "swatches" "custom shapes" "contours" and "styles".

with them turned on, i could upload 75MB out of 89MB, and than again got the same error.

something is not right with your servers.

same Issue.
After googling around I found other posts mentioning the same problems.

My solutions so far:

I managed to migrate settings from Indesign CC to Indesign CC(2014) uninstalling the new App, changing the Creative cloud Preferences for App language from "International English" to "North American English", then downloading Indesign 2014 again.

I managed to migrate settings from Illustrator CC to Illustrator CC(2014) deleting the folder ~/library/preferences/Adobe Illustrator 18 Settings/en_US and then replacing it with ~/library/preferences/Adobe Illustrator 17 Settings/en_US.
Thanx to The_tallness comment from https://forums.adobe.com/message/6470701

Still I cannot sync/download Photoshop settings (from CC to 2014). None of the above solutions worked.

so definitely there is a problem with the sync.

can you upload/download the setting on illustrator and idesign after the workaround?

thanks!

No.
I worked around the issue on my iMac. I downloaded North American CC 2014 Illustrator, Indesign and Photoshop on my MacBook and still none of my custom settings are being downloaded to the MacBook Apps. For both Indesign and Illustrator. Did not bother to test Photoshop.

There is definitely a big problem with the sync thing.

Sync and migrate settings are 2 unrelated operations.

Migrating settings is a script that runs on your local machine.

Syncing settings via the cloud is a large file sync operation over the network.

I can't sync either. the machine won't connect to Creative Cloud no matter what.
It just stays there for ever and nothing gets downloaded at all.

Is there a fix for this?

Does the Creative Cloud application connect to the cloud correctly on your system?

As far as I could tell, yes, I was logged in using the application and I also logged directly on the website, to check that my credentials are in order.

this will work especially in your case I think:

Hallo guys,
just for testing, on both platforms:
1/ create new admin account
2/ log in the created account
3/ start the demanded sofware
4/ check (under help menu) if you are log in your adobe id account

a/ when yes - continue
b/ when no - log in and restart the product - repeat point 4
5/ MAC: under menu NAMEOFTHESOFTWARE (examp.:Photoshop) open preferences and sync preferences

WIN: the same menu under menu EDIT- preferences - sync preferences

---wait until it will state that you are log in - it can need some time before the info goes through

6/ Try the upload

For some of you will this solve the issue - which means that you can have problems with admin rights to some folders in the system or conflicts with some processes on the old acc.

Sync is definitely broken, or at least temporarily down. Same thing happening here. The sync menu doesn't show up in the bottom left corner of documents, and I have the exact same situation in Preferences > Sync Settings (stuck "Connecting to Creative Cloud...", nothing ever happens).

In CC 2014, the obscure sync icon in the lower left corner was removed.

Does the main Creative Cloud application connect to the cloud correctly on your system?

My apps continually fail to connect to CC servers. I have no firewall and was able to do this when CC first launched.

Hi laden m,

The settings for the major version 14.x & 15.x are kept separate.

Does the log show how big your Patterns.psp file is? Can you isolate more from the 5 you mention above, or does it take all of those on to trigger the connection error?

Are you in Europe, Asia, N. America?

steve

hi steve,

thanks. good that the settings for the different versions are kept separately.

the patterns are about 80MB and they are the original patterns (no personal patterns) as far as i know.

i could only sync when patterns, swatches, shapes and fills are turned off. if turned on i could get not far than 70MB out of 90MB and then again i got the connection error.

i'm in europe.

thanks

I'm in Germany - using the US-version on english OSX in the office, and on german OSX at home.

Well, it's 2014 - why breaking an otherwise working feature?

Where's the small sync-icon in the window?

Hi,

Can you try again today? It sounds like we reset some backend processes involved in the Sync Setting workflow to try and clear things up.

The user experience has changed in this new version. We no longer require a document to be open, and thus have removed the icon that was present in the document status area. With Ps 15.0 (aka CC 2014), you can Upload or Download from the menu command or from the Sync Settings preferences dialog (both are modal processes).

steve

Hi Andy,

Try Upload first. I think you may have an empty collection of settings on the Creative Cloud side. Keep in mind that we separate the 14.x collection from the 15.x collection, so you can't use Sync Settings to download your 14.x settings to your 15.0 application.

If that still doesn't work, let me know.

steve

Well, I want to have my settings from PS CC (e.g. get rid of the consolidated window, metric vs. imperial, px vs. inches, etc...)

So if I upload first, they are overwritten, aren's they?

Hi – If you don't have any 15.0 settings to overwrite then no. But generally, yes; Upload will overwrite any existing 15.0 settings on the server. If you're worried about an overwrite, try using the Gradient presets to test.

To do this, choose the Gradient tool and then click on the Tool Options bar Gradient picker. In the section that shows your current presets, alt+ click one of the presets to delete it. Now go to the Sync Settings preferences dialog and choose the 'Custom' menu from the What To Sync selector. Now uncheck all the boxes except 'Gradients'. Now click 'Upload' and see if the log shows," timestamp: Gradients.psp uploaded."

To then see if Download works, dismiss the prefs. with OK, and go back to the Gradient picker and replace the current set with a wholly different one. Then go back and Download in the Sync Settings dialog. The log should show, "timestamp: Gradients.psp downloaded." and if you back to the Gradient picker it should be updated to show the previous set of gradients.

steve

Hi Steve,

well - I have working settings for PS CC, Illustrator CC, etc.. on the Creative Cloud. It took me ages to fine-tune all settings/workspaces. Now I just want to have those settings - as mentioned above: (e.g. get rid of the consolidated window, metric vs. imperial, px vs. inches, etc...)

I just want to keep my settings - that's it.

How?

thx

andy
PS: Took me already an hour and I'm still at the point where I started

hi andy,

did you tried to migrate your CC(14.x.x) presets from Edit / Presets / Migrate Presets?

when i started the new CC (2014) for the first time, i was asked if i want to import all my previews settings from (14.x.x). after that i had all my settings as before.

my only issue was to upload the settings from the new version to the cloud so i can use them on other computers. without uploading them for the first time, there is obviously nothing to download, as they are kept separately from the old version on the cloud.

of course adobe could give us the option to download also settings from old versions. imagine you are on a production somewhere and you need to work on another computer where they just installed the new PS. in that case you don't have access to your settings if you still work on the old version :(

hope that helps.

Hi andy,

You're looking for something that is not currently supported in Photoshop. Both migrate presets and Sync Settings don't offer the ability to transfer those preferences from one version to the next.

I do have an idea to try out so I'll contact you directly.

steve

hi steve,

i could upload all my settings to creative cloud successfully today. probably after the changes you did.
thanks a lot!

also after installing CC(2014) few days ago, all my cc 14.2.1 settings were imported automatically without any issues.

Not here... I'm still looking at the consolidated dark window (I don't like both)...

Can't I just copy Preferences from OSX's Preferences folder and have CC 2014 use it?

For now I'm going to uninstall 2014 again...

hello,
today from the Preferences panel I could successfully upload my settings to creative cloud from PS-CC-2014 running on my iMac (Log showed activity), and than successfully downloaded them in to PS-CC-2014 running on my MacBook.
To be extra sure I added a new workspace on my MacBook, re-uploaded/re-downloaded and the fresh new workspace synced from one mac to the other.

Looks like the reset Steve mentioned worked for me too. Thanx.
(to add some info I am in Italy).

Here's the real issue Adobe has failed to address: The 2014 settings are separate from the 2013 settings. Perfectly reasonable idea, so, they built a little importer that imports your settings from 2013 to 2014 if you wish.

However, the importer DOES NOT WORK. If it did, people wouldn't be here thinking they should be syncing their settings from the cloud when the 2 apps are on the same machine.

Save yourself a headache and just copy over the prefs from ~/Library/Preferences yourself.
