Photoshop Elements: Organizer catalog backup fails

Photoshop 8 crashes and shuts down each time I try to backup catalog. It happens about 2 seconds into "calculating media size". Is there anything I can do to fix this? I don't want to loose my catalog, tags, etc.

The backup is working correctly now, thx to Brett. He did a very good job, fast and efficient. I hope the engineering team will find the ultimate solution.

Please Help - I have the same problem and had for a couple of months now. Anyway you can release the manual procedure to fix the problem?

I would hate to loose the information stored in the catalog...

Unfortunately, this manual procedure has not been tested enough to release to the general public. It is dangerous and can damage the file further if done incorrectly. I can send you an email with instructions on how to send me the file for repair though.

Please do. The ~\catalog.pse10db is close to 80 Mb big, having roughly 14.000 objects in it. (approx 20 MB zipped)

Tim, I've gotten emails from you asking when your catalog will be ready. The fact of the matter is that I was able to repair your catalog in a very short amount of time. And I have sent you several emails letting you know that your catalog is ready for pickup. But it seems you have gotten none of them. I would suggest checking your spam/junk folder for my emails for instructions on how to get your catalog back.

Hi Brett,

I'm terribly sorry about that, but I can see from my spam logs that you indeed did send me something on friday last week, but the content is unfortunately gone :-(

Can I ask you to resend the email once please? - I've added you email address to my white list, and I will keep watching for your, so it should hopefully not disappear again.
Sorry about the hassle..

Brgds,

Tim

Thumbs up for Brett's work and commitment to help!

Sorry to Brett for cumbersome process, the last link you've send me worked. A full backup has been executed and works. (When I tried to do the backup, the catalog complained about a few unconnected files at first. I turned out all to be video files of different formats. When I tried to link them back in, PSE found them to be in the catalog already, which is a behavior I have seen plenty of times before.)

Many thanks - I'll feel a lot more comfortable knowing that the work I'v invested in my Organiser for the last decade is secure.

Brgds

I have followed all of the instructions on the link supplied by Brett N and I still can't get the full catalog backup to go past 79%. It just stops. I am desperate. Any ideas?

Thanks to Brett N for contacting me last night. He attempted to repair my catalog. But the only problem was that there were some video files in the catalog. Thanks again for your efforts and great communication!

Brett,

I am having the same problem, full backup freezes at 4% during the "Calculating Total Media Size" stage, and you seem to be the expert on making it work. Would you help me? I am desperate!

I am using PSE 10, Windows 7 Home Premium, backing up to external hard drive. Thank you!

How big is your catalog file? I'll need to collect it to perform a manual repair.
