Photoshop Elements 8.0 is crashing after I edit only about 8 photos. The error message before it shuts down is simply: Out of Memory. I have a Dell XPS system with 12 GB of RAM, over a terabyte of hard drive free. When it reaches about 1 GB of Memory, it crashes. If I don't edit any photos, it sits around 250K - 500K of memory, but as soon as I begin editing - even just simple cropping using the Photo Fix Options not using quick edit or full edit, it goes to about 1GB of memory usage and crashes. I have Windows 7 - 64-bit, 3.4GHz processor, and Photoshop Elements 8.0. I have already ordered 10.0 to see if that corrects this problem. I am extremely frustrated and after years of using Photoshop Elements am considering switching. I have about 60,000 photos, and the ones I am editing are about 2-3GB each. I have rebooted the computer multiple times, I have only Elements organizer and Editor running.

It seems you are either using the same scratch disk for os default drive or you have given very low memory usage to the editor.

1)Go to editor preferences (ctrl+k).
2)Go to performane tab > memory usage >increase the ram amount.
3)If you have partitions in your hard-disk change the active scratch disk to the other drive sometimes what happen if you use same scratch disk used by default os , due to trashing performance slows down.
