Photoshop CS5: Won't open on macOS Sierra

I am having problems with CS5 Photoshop. I recently updated my Mac to OS Sierra and now Photoshop doesn't work despite having no errors on my other Adobe programs. When I try to open Photoshop I get this error message: An expected and unrecoverable problem has occurred.


I tried to uninstall and reinstall, but my disc keep ejecting when it reaches 59% and the download I got from Adobe site won't open and I get this message:


 Install” can’t be opened. You should eject the disk image.

I need some help.

As far as I know, CS5 is not compatible with Sierra

All my other Adobe programs work once I downloaded something from the internet. So it isn't a compatibility issue.

What version do you have which Adobe program?

I have CS5 Master Edition. The programs I usually used are InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. The last first two work, including After Effects. Only Photoshop isn't working for me.

Restart you computer. Download the installer from Adobe.com to reinstall.

Silly question, but where is the installer on the site? I mean, what tab is under, CREATIVE CLOUD APPS or Assets?

I am reading what to do. What does:

 Drag the Unix executable to the Terminal

Mean?

Go into Applications> Utilities... and launch the application called "Terminal"

Then drag the "Install" file displayed in Step 5 to the Terminal app in the macOS dock

You may need to follow these instructions to run the installer on Sierra: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/install-creative-suite-mac-os-sierra.html

(Note: Sierra isn't an officially supported OS for CS5 which came out years prior. Use at your own risk)

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Unable to Install Adobe Product Already Purchased.

I have a new MacBook Pro that runs on Mac OS Sierra 10.12.3. My Adobe Creative Suite 5 Design Premium product that I purchased previously is no longer compatible. I realize that subscriptions are now available, but I would like to suggest that Adobe find a way for customers to use their older Adobe products on the new computers available today. Thank you.

Hi Ramona,  I checked it out.  Yes, I got the Legacy installers.  I even had an Apple support person helping me.  He thinks the new computer's OS has advanced beyond CS5.

I don't think it is the case since I have CS5 and the latest version of Sierra and I got it working after some hassle with Photoshop.

You may have to try reinstalling.

Thanks Jeffrey.  When I dragged the exec. file to the terminal window, an error window popped up that said: "Install can't be opened.  You should eject the disk image."  Please note that I am not only running on Sierra, but this computer is less than a month old.  I've been told CS5 can't run on this new computer.  Do you think there is a way around that?

I got Photoshop CS5 running in macOS High Sierra 10.13.1 (Late 2015 iMac).

1. I used the most recent download found here: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-product-downloads.html
2. I used the serial number for my previous purchase, found here: https://accounts.adobe.com/products
3. I found this StackExchange answer: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/41161024/adobe-creative-suit-5-cs5-5-installation-on-mac-os-sier...  So in my terminal I typed:
cd ~/Downloads 
xattr -c Photoshop_12_LS1.dmg
(Note: The "Downloads" folder of my user is where I downloaded it.)

4. After running the installer, trying to launch the app informed me I needed a legacy version of Java. I clicked the "More info..." button which took me here: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572?locale=en_US  (I was a little spooked by the Lion on the page, thinking it might not work with High Sierra, but it worked.)
5. Downloaded and ran the Java installer.
6. Launched Photoshop successfully. 

Hope this helps others facing the same set of problems.
