Photoshop will not close

I was having problems opening PS, it took forever.  Now it opens within 45 seconds, however I can't close it.

When I try to close it the spinner just keeps going and I have to go to the task manager and shut it down.

This creates a problem because after I do that I have to reload all of my brushes and patterns.

Howdy Julie,

Do you have enough space on your scratch drive(s)?  Have you trashed your preferences?  Have you checked the integrity of your font caches: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-fonts-photoshop.html?

If PS doesn't close correctly, it would be very likely that brushes, patterns, shortcuts, default font, and other presets won't load properly.

Thanks,
David

Hi David,

Thank you for the information.

I downloaded the script and the fonts are not the problem. I don't believe it's my preferences because this just started happening a few weeks ago.

Here is the order I have my scratch drives in. #3 doesn't have much space but I think the other 2 do.

As far as brushes, patterns and presets how do I check those?

Howdy Julie,

Hmm, that should be plenty of scratch space for you.  Good to hear that your font caches aren't the culprit.  The preferences for Photoshop are just a file, so can be corrupted like any other.  And because they're written out when the app closes, waaay more likely to be adversely affected by a crash.  As a result, it's a good first step to clear the prefs file -- it will automatically be regenerated on your next launch once you do.  Plus, the prefs file is what stores your brushes and swatches, etc...

Hope that helps,
David
