Photoshop Usability Feedback Suggestion

When editing a text on a layer, when one double clicks on the text layer, the Text tool should automatically become the active tool.  Currently, when I double click on the text layer, if I have the direct selection tool in use, it doesn't change to the Text tool. This would be very much appreciated and improve the user experience.

Also, it would be great if one could manually move the tools icons into the order one most commonly uses them on the tools bar (on the left channel). It's annoying to always have to scan to find the tool one needs. Or perhaps allow a customizable tool bar.

Howdy Charmaine,

Thanks for your feedback.

There are LOTS of different workflows out there and sometimes people might want to do something different to text than edit it (such as move it, zoom in/out, transform it, etc), which is why you need to have the Text tool already activated to work on text -- many other tools also have legitimate text-based workflows too.

As for the tools in the Toolbox, those are fully customizable.  To make changes, click Edit > Toolbar.  You can group the tools any way you like, remove those you don't want, reorder them, change their shortcut, etc.

Hope that helps,
David

Thanks David. It would be ideal if one could designate one's preferences for editing text on layer in the preferences as I think the most common need would be to EDIT the text rather than move it.

Or you could also learn a few of the keyboard shortcuts... To access your text tool, press T.
