Photoshop: Unsharp mask preview button only turns it off. Re-checking box doesn't turn it back on. Have to change the settings

Must be a bug in the new dialogue box in recent update of CC 2015 (12/14/15). You can't go back and forth to show before/after.

i've seen this bug pop up a few times with the Median filter as well. The only way i can get it to preview is to cancel out and then go back in again.

OK. The only thing I'm seeing is that checking or unchecking it won't update until the preview is fully rendered. Need to go back and check to see if this is new.

i'm running CC2015.1.1 and OSX.10.5 w Nvidia. Started seeing the issue with CC2015.1, and i don't think it was there with CC2015.0, but i was running CC2014 at the time due to all the bugs with 2015.0. Seems to only happen during the first run of a filter.

BTW, these release names/versions are incredibly confusing. CC2014 is release 15 and CC2015 is release 16?!

Yeah. The engineering team isn't too fond of the naming either. ;)

I think the issue is the old dialog wouldn't let you easily change the state of the check box while it was rendering and the new dialog does. The new UI also looks like it doesn't have the preview loading indicator (flashing underline under preview checkbox). I'm looking into this closer with QE.

Update: Strange discovery. The problem I stated with the unsharp mask preview button only happens when that filter dialogue is launched through an "Action" script I have (one that I have used for years). I tried re-recording that unsharp mask step but the problem remains. However, if I launch unsharp mask directly from the filter tab and apply the same settings, the preview button works fine. I hope that makes sense to you and helps you uncover the bug. Thanks, Jeffrey.

same here. My action is: Select All, Copy Merged, Paste, Convert to Smart Object, Filter/Median.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled PHOTOSHOP CC 2015 - Unsharp Mask Action Dialog Preview Button does not toggle..

I have an action that, as a final step, brings up the dialog pane for an Unsharp Mask with default settings. The Preview button, which is, by default, checked, does correctly toggle off to show the image with no USM, but does not re-establish the effect in the image when toggled back on. When I finish the action, the effect is in fact made, but beforehand I am unable to toggle back and forth to see the effects of different USM settings.

I have used this action for many years, and it has always worked perfectly until recently. I believe this issue started with Photoshop CC 15.1, and it continues in 15.1.1. I am running a MacBook Pro with System OS X 10.11.2.

I have the same problem. 2 separate actions which use gaussian blur and surface blur as a modal dialog and I experience the issue as well.

Changing the values in the modal window once the preview tick box is active brings back the preview, but this isn't a solution.

For me, the issue only started with the recent 2015 update. It was working fine in the latest 2014 version.

I also tried to re-record the actions in the hope that would make a difference, but the issue remains.

I have this problem too.

It's also if you record action like this:
Make curves layer (Action records as: Make adjustment layer)
Adjust Auto Option: Encange per chanel options -> Ok (Action records as: Set current adjustment layer)

Then make a tick on Toggle dialog on at Set current adjustment layer

When playing action curves pops up as dialog and the Preview toggles only once not as is should toggle back and forth.

Can Adobe report here when this is fixed?

Photoshop 2015.1
OSX 10.10.5

Here's the action:

I am seeing this problem with all image adjustment dialogs. Once unchecked you can not see the preview with the changes again.

Okay, did some testing on a new install.

The best that I can tell at this point is that most dialogs if called from an action will exhibit this behavior. If called from mousing through the menu or keyboard shortcuts the preview on-off-on works fine.

I didn't take the time to test all dialogs but I did find some that work fine when called from an action. Two that I found so far are Assign Profile and Lens Correction.

Looks like if I am going use the latest version of Photoshop to have to learn even more keyboard shortcuts as I have my doubts Adobe will fix this, the same as never fixing the tool flyout sticking bug. It was just easier to learn the tool short cuts instead clicking twice to get the the flyout to go back in so the tool would work. While I am on this rant, I see the brush tool hangs have still not been fixed either. Well keeping a mouse handy to clear it, I am pretty used to by now.

This is true, except for HDR Toning, for which the preview button doesn't work. It will toggle off but won't come back on again. I have written up my experience here but so far noone has replied or elevated it to a 'problem': http://feedback.photoshop.com/photosh...

I just downloaded the latest Photoshop update meant to "correct bugs" in the last version, and this bug remains! SERIOUSLY? This is totally disruptive to any type of workflow and makes using "Actions" frustrating and a time waste. C'mon Adobe: fix this. I'm tired of paying every month for a flawed product!

Same thing here (Photoshop CC 2015.1.2 on Mac OSX 10.9.5) – Gaussian Blur, Unsharp Mask, ... raised from an Action will fail multiple preview on/off switches but work fine when raised from the menu or keyboard shortcut.

Jeff, i haven't noticed any problems with filter preview lately. We just filmed about 40 hours of tutorials last week with lots of filter previewing throughout and not a single issue.
Sure would be great if we could use the P key to preview in the Layer Style window though!

Did P ever work for toggling preview in the styles dialog? If there isn't a topic for that already create one and I'll have someone look at it.

No, it's never worked, but seems like it should. Years ago when i asked, Cox said it was "not" working as intended, but wouldn't explain why the P was disabled.

Filter dialogs raised in an Action seem to perform as expected for me (with a little »hanging« at times), currently running Photoshop 19.1.0.
