My Photoshop does not work anymore. I can start the software, but when I open an image, I get the message "a problem caused the program to stop working".
I'm working on a PC, any idea what might cause this?
Updates are all done, last one was 6 days ago.

What version of Photoshop are you using?
What OS version are you using?
What does the detailed crash report say?

Chris, thenk yo for taking time to answer my question.
After a problem occured I always ask - what did I change last?
I installed a new LP - IPS LED 24MP76 monitor yesterday, must have to do with that. I am using two monitors, when I open Photoshop on the normal LED monitor it works.
I am using Photoshop CC, version 2014 2.2 - it's the latest update available.

Just tried InDesign, that works on the new monitor.

Could it be that Photoshop has trouble with the new screen

Not likely, but the video card driver might be crashing (out of date drivers are the #1 cause of crashes in Photoshop on Windows).
