Photoshop Saving Improvements on Mac?

I moved to using a MAC at work about five years ago and though several of my initial annoyances with the OS differences have faded, several issues have not.

Here's observation #1: In Photoshop CC on a PC, if you're doing a "Save As", you're able to click a file in the saving browser window if you wanted the file names to be similar and the PC version of Photoshop was smart enough to default the file type to the file type of the file you had clicked. For some reason the apple version isn't.

Here's a screen shot - I'm working in a standard psd file. I used the keyboard command to save as. Once the window came up, I clicked one of the files that were in the folder to adopt that file name, but it adopts it in name only - see the arrow - if I clicked save without manually changing the format to jpg, the file will save with standard psd format encoding but will have a jpg extension with the file name [and I don't have to tell you the kind of mischief that kind of thing can cause].

Idea #1: Don't allow Photoshop to save something with one type of encoding without adding the correct file name extension.

Observation #2: When saving a Ps file [or any adobe file for that matter] on a Mac - I have to actually click the save button. Can't just use the keyboard to choose options when there's an additional question inside the save window. Here's the one I encounter most often:

Since at this point in the process, I often have my fingers on the keyboard [not my hand on the mouse], it would be more efficient for me to be able to use the arrow keys on the keyboard to choose the "replace" option, but that's not possible. I have to use the mouse to click replace instead... yep. I know it's a little thing, but it sure slows things down.

So, Idea #2: allow us to use the keyboard arrows to choose buttons within the save/error notification boxes. And allow us to use only the keyboard save files - I can tab through most of the areas in the save dialog box except for the format. I have to use the mouse for that.

Working in PS CC 20.0.7 on iMac running macOS Mojave version 10.14.6
Still using the "Magic Keyboard" that came with the mac...

I've wanted both of those for a LONG time, too.  (Along with the ability to hide some of the formats on the Format list, which is already somewhere here on the Idea wish list in this forum.)

I'm with you on that one. I'd love to hide some of the formats, or have the ones I use most often be at the top of the list.

I reported a similar issue here:

Does it sound like the same thing your talking about with observation #1?

First go to Apple>System Preferences>Keyboard>Shortcuts and enable Full Keyboard Access>For All Controls

Then for  Observation #2: press the Space bar to invoke the Replace option.

If you want Cancel (not save) press Esc. and then Esc again to dismiss the Save As dialog.

And you should also be able to use the Tab in the Save As dialog to highlight Format, then click
the Down Arrow Key to see the file format list and use the up or down arrow keys to select a file format and then press Enter
