Why does my photoshop randomly shut down and when reopening it looses ALL my most recent actions that have been saved. It seems to revert back to older settings. This also seems to happen a lot when opening portrait.

Howdy Kerry,

First, Photoshop should not ever randomly shut down.  We should focus our efforts on figuring out why that's happening.  That your settings aren't being maintained is NOT a surprise as preferences are written out when the app closes.

So, what version of Photoshop are you running?  On what OS?  And do you have this problem with all files or only certain ones?  What is the file type you're working on?  You're not, by chance running on a machine with limited hard drive memory remaining?

These answers should help direct where the problem lies.

Thanks,
David

Do you mean it crashes? If so, what does the detailed crash report say?

And what OS version are you using?

Hi David/Chris
Yes I agree, photoshop should not randomly shut down/crash and it would be great to finally be able to sort this issue. I'm using OS X 10.9.5 Mac and photoshop CS4. I use an external hardrive which has plenty of space. I'm editing images in a tiff format. This is an example message that pops up when trying to use a plug int such as portrait:
There is plenty more of the error message, it just seems to go on forever.
Thanks, Kerry

You haven't installed any of the Photoshop CS4 updates. You should be on version 11.0.2.

And next time you post a crash log - post all of it instead of just the first few lines.
