Photoshop PSB saves deleting original PSD - Mavericks to SMB Windows server

Working on PSD files in Photoshop CC 2014 (Problem still occurs in CC 2015) - I'm saving directly to a Windows server over SMB. The workstation is running OSX 10.9.5.

If during saving the file goes over 2GB it will prompt to save as a PSB - Fine, this happens all the time. Problem is when saving to the server it will delete the original PSD before I save out the new PSB. Meaning for a time, no file is saved to disk. If Photoshop were to crash at this point, which it has in the past, I lose the entire file.

This doesn't happen with local saves. The PSD will remain intact and I can save the PSB alongside it.

Is there an answer that isn't simply "Adobe doesn't support using Photoshop over networks"? Because it's a bit of a cop out for a professional tool.

That doesn't sound right at all.

That sounds like you may have a serious problem with your fileserver, or with the OS support for SMB in your OS -- and MacOS does have some outstanding bugs with SMB support. You might want to try using CIFS instead of SMB to connect to the server.

What kind of server are you using?

Hi Chris,

Sorry misinformation before - We're running a Linux server, not Windows. It's a Dell R720 at the core with raided storage.

The problem is still present over CIFS.

Cheers,
Adrian.
