Every time I go to change a font in PS I get a dialogue box that pops up that states "Could not complete your request because of a program error." I have updated PS and rebooted my macbook and still no luck.

Howdy Nick,

Have you tried trashing your preferences?  On a Mac, hold Command+Option+Shift while starting Photoshop to delete the preferences.

Thanks,
David

Howdy Nick,

Have you added any new fonts recently?  Do you use fonts used to represent languages that use complex scripts, such as Arabic, Devanagari, or Thai?

Also, it could simply be that your font cache has become corrupt.  You can find steps to clear it here: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-fonts-photoshop-cs5.html.  NOTE -- you must do ALL steps IN ORDER for this to work.

Let us know what you come up with, ok?
Thanks,
David

Check the file PSErrorLog.txt in your Photoshop preferences folder, and see what the last several lines say.
