Photoshop: Option to center crosshair on grid intersection for pencil at even-pixel brush sizes

I swear it wasn't always like this.

It would be good to have an option to set the behavior to "center" on the pixel grid intersection between the center 4 pixels when using a Pencil tool with an even-numbered brush size, rather than this -- having it offset to the pixel below and to the right of the exact center. I believe this was previously the default behavior, but maybe I'm crazy.

The issue with the (now) current behavior is that it produces unintuitive results with the symmetry function, as it reads the crosshair location as the location of the brush. When drawing with the symmetry function, one would generally assume that by placing the brush right against the symmetry line, one would end up with an unbroken line. This is no longer the case.
