Hi Daniel,

Can you give some more information about the problem you're having with the Type Tool?  What OS are you running?  Do you have the problem with all files or a particular one?  How many fonts do you have on your system?

You might want to try running through these steps in case you have a corrupt cache: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-fonts-photoshop-cs5.html

Thanks,
David

I too am having this problem since the update on October 6. If I try to use the type tool it locks up Photoshop. I have to kill it in the task manager to get out of the program. Super aggravated. I am running Windows 7 and have never had any problems before. The only time it doesn't freak out is if it is a brand new blank document. Every other file I have tried to type on has locked up though.

Hi April,

Have you tried running through the steps laid out in the link I posted?  I'm curious whether or not those steps can solve the problem.

Thanks,
David

Yes I have tried all of them that are applicable to the PC. At first it none of it helped. In the last minute or so I tired messing with the Font preview options again and for the time being that seems to have helped to we'll see. Thanks for your quick response.

I take it back. It allowed me to type a little bit but when I went back to change the color it locked up again.

Hi April,

Did you recently add some new fonts?  If turning off previews helped, it's quite likely that you have a badly-formatted or corrupted font.  This is particularly common with third-party web-fonts.

I haven't added any new fonts in the last couple of months. I use photoshop everyday almost and this only happened after the new version came out on the 6th I don't think that is a coincidence.
