Ever since I upgraded to Windows 10, about every other day Photoshop locks up so badly that I have to reboot my computer to unstick it. Using Task Manager will not close it. It is when I use Alt-Tab to go to other files or switch to a web page or game when it locks up.
If you can't kill the application from the task manager, that means it is stuck in a low level OS routine or a device driver.
Most likely that would be the video card driver (because many of them have problems on Win10) -- update it from the GPU maker's website. And make sure that automatic graphics switching (mostly on laptops) is disabled so that Photoshop always uses the better GPU in the system.
Thank you for your very informative reply. Do you happen to have any links to show how to do that? I can get to the device manager alright but I am not sure what to disable. Also when I go to the drivers, they all say they are up to date, even when I tell them to search the web anyway. Thanks in advance for any tips.
