Photoshop: Filters disabled based on VRAM - Please allow these to work on CPU (albeit more slowly)

Why does Photoshop CC 2014 report that it requires 512MB VRAM to perform certain filters. My MacBook Pro has a discrete video card with 256MB VRAM, and I would prefer to wait a little longer for an operation to complete, rather than be denied the feature. My Mac Mini with a much slower integrated Intel card can perform the function, as it shares system memory. Please update the software to give the user the option to perform the function, and if you feel it necessary, inform the user that the operation will take longer as a result of limited resources.

Which specific filters are you referring to?

"3D features and some filters (Flame/Tree/Picture Frame) require a minimum of 512MB of VRAM. Photoshop has detected less than that on your system. Updating the driver of your graphics card may resolve this issue. For more information, visit: http://www.adobe.com/go/photoshop_gpu... "

Again, Intel HD Graphics 3000 can be used according to that document, and I have a feeling that the Intel hardware is not as fast as the discrete NVIDIA card.
