Photoshop Issue: Closing one tabbed group of documents closes all other tabbed groups.

When I have multiple documents open, I like to sort them into tabbed groups. This helps me keep all closely related files grouped together while being able to handle any new things that come up. Once I'm done with a set of files, I hit the red x on the entire group instead of closing each file one by one. The issue I'm having is that closing any one tabbed group automatically closes the others.

You can reproduce this by opening four files at once, dragging two of them out to make their own group (so you have two groups of two), and then closing one of those groups. Instead of closing just the one group, it will close the other one as well. My older CS version never had this issue, and It's beyond frustrating that the close button is acting this way.

Does this relate to the close all windows warning, maybe? Try using the Reset All Warnings button in prefs and see if you get a warning next time you close a group...

I had never tried grouping files. When I group two files that are not grouped on the normal bar in PS, I can click on the x in that group and it closes and leaves the other two files on the main normal bar or another undocked group. The undocked group, however, does not stay with the normal PS frame.
