Photoshop: Freezing when changing brushes or picking colours

For several days I've been having an issue with Photoshop stalling or freezing frequently. Two things that seem to cause it are switching to particular brushes (I think ones which use the dual brush feature) and picking colours via a plugin called coolorus.

I've disabled the plugin and rolled back to a previous version of photoshop (21.0), but the freezes still happen.

Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Are you on macOS or Windows? Does it freeze when you select the brush or when you try to paint with the brush?

I'm using Windows 10, and usually when I select the brush. I've also realised that these issues started around the same time I installed some new nvidia drivers, so it's possible it's related to that somehow. I've rolled back to an older driver, but I haven't been able to determine if that's the cause yet.

EDIT: Nope, even on the older driver it still hangs occasionally. I've also had photoshop freezes after I used a regular oval eraser tool, instead of selecting a brush.
