Hello fellow users of this patched version of photoshop, I have a temporary fix for your problems with slow down, lag, freeze and unusable workflow in Photoshop 2020 and 2019/2018
Lets go to the important, the solution:
Symptom
-Check if you have selected two or one scratch disk different as the primary disk.
Per example, everybody has Windows installed in the hard disk C:/ and Photoshop set that as primary Scratch Disk but Adobe recommend use another one. Ok, tested with different disk I see that the problem was there.
Solution:
-Change the scratch disk from any other disk to C:/
If you have the scratch disk selected in C:/ and D:/ and E:/ just uncheck D and E and check only C:/
How? Go to menu edit/preferences/Scratch Disks and activate only the "startup" disk, in this case C:\
I'm a professional artist that works with bigger images, with 1gb PSDs and the slowness start when I change the scratch disk to D:/ . My primary disk (C:/) is a NVme SSD and my D:/ is just a regular 5400rpm Seagate disk just to use as a primary and quick backup.
When photoshop 2020 and below use a secondary disk as a scratch disk the lag and freeze make photoshop practical unresponsive.
Tested with other disk (D) and the problem persist, now the lag and freeze dissappear but I need 30GB of free space in my primary disk to use photoshop.
SOLUTION NUMBER 2
-If you have a Nvidia Geforce video card there is a bug that make photoshop to slow down and freeze.
Solution: Don't wait until Nvidia or Adobe fix the problem.
-Go to your desktop
-click secondary mouse button and select NVIDIA CONTROL PANEL
-a popups open and select MANAGE 3d SETTINGS
-Selected the right tab PROGRAM SETTINGS
-and in the SELECT A PROGRAM TO CUSTOMIZE below, select photoshop.exe
-and below in the SELECT THE PREFFERED GRAPHIC PROCESSOR FOR THIS PROGRAM select your INTEL CARD or INTEGRATED CARD.
You will lose your Geforce capabilities inside photoshop but you will be free of lag and Intel works the same.
SOLUTION 3:
If you use a HUION TABLET or WACOM TABLET. uncheck the WINDOWS INK inside your tablet preferences program and create a text file with this info inside.
# Use WinTab
UseSystemStylus 0
and now save the TXT file as PSUserConfig.txt and paste the file here:
C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2020\Adobe Photoshop 2020 Settings\
But try the scratch disk solution first with the last version of photoshop.
If any of these solutions works for you, please write a comment here and help other to fight the lag and freeze that make photoshop so unusable for artists, photographs and designers that pay everymonth a suscription to support the company and have a legal software installed.
