Photoshop: Export As causing "Image is Empty" for logo on Artboard setup

I updated last week to Photoshop 2015.5.0 Release with version 20160603.r.88 x64. Using documents with artboards, I started getting an error while exporting a layer using "Export As". Only happened with a layer with a vector logo on it, placed (copy/pasted) as a smart object from Illustrator into Photoshop. I also tried placing this logo as pixel, path, place embedded, etc. Same result, "Image are is empty". Other layers with embedded placed photos export as expected.

After finding no help with a google search, I created a brand new file, placed only the vector (copy/ paste from illustrator just like the original file) and I was able to exported as expected, no errors. So I went back to my original document with artboards, ungrouped the artboards and was able to export the logo layer just fine. This seems to be a bug with artboards and certain layers.

A co-worker had the issue the other day also and found that if he put the layer in a folder and then exported the folder, it allowed him to export normally. Since I posted this original issue, I have had it happen on an embedded image layer in addition to the smart objects. I have had to duplicate the needed layer into a new document (without artboards) and export from there. Definately losing time with this workaround, but at least I get an image out.
