Photoshop Error message when opening a file "Could not complete your request because of a program error"

I'm running photoshop CC2017.1.1 and this "could not complete you request because of a program error" pops up anytime I try to open a specific file. I've incrementally saved the file after I've done each new thing and tried to reopen it and I think it has something to do with smart objects (although I may be completely wrong).

Below is the most recent few lines from the error log in the preferences. Anyone have any idea on what I can do about this - it's so frustrating not being able to open these files!

This usually results from working on a cloud drive, such as Google Drive or Dropbox. Is that the case here?

Howdy Laurence,

We didn't have any trouble opening these files here on either Win or Mac (even my crappy Mac).  The images are cool and colorful, by the way.  But this situation makes me wonder if your machine is having some problem specific to it.

Have you tried trashing your PS preferences?  How about NOT loading your third-party plugins?  Check to see what other apps you have running at the same time -- can you try to launch PS with a minimal number of other apps running?  Also, how much RAM and scratch disk space do you have...?  The first images is quite large...

I'd really like to help you, but I need to be able to recreate the problem to do so.

Thanks,
David

Howdy Janet,

First question, have these RAW files ever opened?  That is, has this ever worked for you?

Next, could you send me a couple of these RAW files so I can try on my machine?

Also, which version of Photoshop CC are you running?  Please check the first line under Help > System Info.

Thanks,
David

Can you please send me your system info? Launch Photoshop>Help>System Info. Copy and paste into an email and send it to me  (aohlmeye@adobe.com) If you could also send me the NEFs that you are having trouble with it would be helpful. I am not aware of the "problems on the mac" the rep was referring to but would like to know who the rep is and what bug was he referring to for our reference. Do you recall how you import the NEF's into your machine? Did you use Nikon Software to import it? Thank you for all your help. -Adriana

I've had and solved this in the distant past: I think it was just a case of moving the file to a different disk, but could be wrong.
