Elements Organizer 14.1 not recognizing ExFAT formatted card as memory card in import tool

Hi,

I recently got a new camera, and by default it formats memory cards as ExFAT (because that's newer & better).

However, when I plug that card in to copy the photos over to elements organiser, organiser doesn't recognise it as a memory card.

I can 'Get Photos and Videos' -> 'From Files and Folders' since the system recognises and mounts the drive, but I can't import them 'From Camera or Card Reader' to take advantage of all the additional tools in that import mechanism.

It's worth noting that apple photos does recognise it as a memory card and auto-starts when it's inserted.

Info:
Photoshop Elements Organiser: 14.1 (20151206.m.83730) x64
OS X: 10.11.2 (15C50)

Hi Barry,
I checked on Mac 10.11.x and for me even Photos app/Image Capture app is not recognizing ExFAT based device.
Can you please re-confirm?

Hi - yes.

This happens for me every day.

I plug in my card, and Photos opens (I don't have the version of Photos to hand, but I can add that later if you need it).

So - Photos does definitely recognise the card as a memory card to copy images from.

I always close that (as I use organiser) - but organiser never lists it in the options of 'From Camera or Card Reader'.

I did another experiment, where I copied all the data off the card to my computer (using Finder), and then formatted the card to Fat32 (using Disk Utility). Finally I copied the data back onto the card. When I re-inserted the card, both Photos and Organiser recognised the card as an external card. (N.B. My camera didn't recognise the card after that, so I had to make it reformat it back to ExFAT)

I don't think it should make a difference - but for what it's worth, I'm using the built in card-reader on my MacBook Pro.

Thanks,
Barry

Hi Barry,
Thanks for confirmation.
I have re-verified at my end and both Photos app and Image Capture app are not recognizing the ExFat based device.
Following are some snapshots from my machine.

Barry,
Can you please do following test for me:
1. Format your card to ExFat using Disk utility (I guess till now you were using your camera to do that).
2. Copy some images to this card.
Verify if Photos/Image capture recognizes this device.

Hi Barry,
With above tests, I just want to see how the OS default apps handles ExFat based device. Irrespective of it, I recognize that it is a bug in APD/Organizer. I have created a bug in our bug base and will work on it.
