Photoshop Elements 2019 is a flop!

I just bought and downloaded PSE 2019 for my Mac. What a disappointment compared to the older versions! 1) I can no longer see my desktop or my thumbnails in the background. There is a gray screen in the background that just doesn't go away! 2) When I edit a picture it no longer becomes "tyled" and "bulge out" like it used to, so I can't tell apart the images that I have edited from the ones that I haven't! The only way to tell them apart now is to color-code them after I edit them. 3) When I open an image to edit, the size of the image is no longer displayed at its bottom. i.e. 3000 pixels X 2000 pixels. So, every time I have to use 'OPTION COMMAND I' , or check image size from the drop down menu, to see how large it is. 4) When I use the cropping tool to take a chunk of an image and turn it into a 4X6 image for example, it doesn't keep its original pixelage. It automatically re-pixelates it to, for example 800 X1200, although the chunk I picked is much much larger and has much higher resolution. Anyone who can help me here or knows how to solve this issues would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Don't expect new versions of software to work exactly as very old versions.
I am really sorry, but since I am not a native English speaker I can't understand anything from your points #1 and #2... And please mention your OS and version (Windows or Mac). Showing screenshots is welcome!
For the "crop" issue, just make sure that the checkbox "resample" is NOT checked.

Thank you for your reply. Mac OS Mojave Version 10.14.5

PSE Version 8 doesn't cover my desktop. I can still see all my thumbnails.
PSE 2019 covers my desktop. I can't see my thumbnails. This gray background can't be eliminated!

PSE Version 8: When a picture is edited, the thumbnail shrinks a little and bulges out. See my second screenshot, image on the left.

PSE 2019: When a picture is edited the thumbnail still looks the same and doesn't bulge out, so I can't tell that it has been edited already, image on the right.

Elliot, there are preferences and settings for how the application looks... have you gone through the Windows menu to see if you can change settings there for not covering your desktop?
And i think that the way those thumbnails look is related to an OS setting, not Adobe...

Yes I have. Can't be done. I also called Adobe and spent nearly three hours on the phone with one of their tech support reps (in India) and a very knowledgeable fellow. He made a remote connection, came into my computer and checked every setting possible! None of the above issues could be resolved. It's a shame that that I can't see my desktop with this new PSE 2019.  It's just the way it is designed. Also, I don't understand why the tyling/bulging of an edited image's thumbnail could be a OS issue since it worked fine with the old PSE 8 version but not the new one! Frustrating and disappointing. I give Adobe PSE 2019 a rating of 2 out of 5.
