We're seeing a number of performance problems due to code changes in MacOS 10.11. We are working with Apple to identify and solve these problems introduced in the new release of MacOS 10.11.

Premiere Elements has issues under El Capitan, 10.11.4 helped a little, but the lag, especially in audio tracks is very bad.  Sync problem is worse over a 2 minute video and the pitch of the audio is changed and sounds like slow motion.  Yosemite not much better, but certainly smoother than El Capitan.  A 2011 iMac cannot perform well with either OS and Premiere Elements.  A 2015 Retina iMac is better but still buggy.

Still slow - I updated a few days ago.  Is either Apple or Adobe doing anything to fix this?

Wish, they would fix it. I have El Capitan and it screws up my whole Mac!  Causes drag and lag with the cursor and page flickering.  I am going to uninstall it and they can fix it or they lose this customer.  Glad it was a free trial.  I'd be super angry if I'd paid $100 for it!

Flickering is probably due to a video card driver (there's a known iMac driver bug that can cause that).
If you have a wacom tablet, you also need to update the driver for it.
And we're all waiting for Apple to fix the bugs in MacOS 10.11.

Are their any rumors in which month the update will come, I think this is a lot of trouble for adobe, thousands new customers must give back their software what they bought like me, I gave mine back 2 days before - if I can be sure that there is a new version an update ore whatever is necessary to make PSE 14 work with El Capitan I would like to buy and try again but at the moment I'm still p...ed off for the wast of time.

No, Apple does not pre-announce dates for their OS updates.
But we are working with Apple to resolve the issues introduced in recent MacOS updates.

I purchased PSE 14 in September as soon as it was released.
At that time I used OSX 10.10 (Yosemite) on my iMac and everything worked fine, as with older versions of PSE.
Recently I updated to OSX 10.11 (El Capitan) and PSE slowed to a crawl.
Even after the update to OSX 10.11.1 this has not improved.

Who will fix this?

Adobe or Apple?

Just upgraded to a 5k iMac, and upgraded to PSE14 for my wife. The organizer is almost unusable! It is so choppy, laggy, and hesitant when browsing pictures. She is blaming the new computer, but it's the latest and greatest. iPhoto isn't laggy at all. Any suggestions?

Try installing the MacOS 10.11 compatibility plugin: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/...

We are still working with Apple to resolve many issues introduced in MacOS 10.11.

The software ran just fine on several previous OS versions, but Apple has introduced new problems in their new OS release.

We are notifying Apple of the problems, and Apple says they are working on solutions.

I bought PSE14 last weekend.  Had to get a new photo editor because Picasa no longer supported and it doesn't work on the iMac anymore.  I hate PSE 14.  On the videos they provide, it looks like it could be great.  Unfortunately, its unusable on my iMac.  Wish I had not bought it and there is no way to demand a refund.  This is ridiculous.  PSE is an industry leader and used by millions.  It won't be for long if this ins't addressed QUICKLY.

I am not an IT geek, just an experienced amateur user.
I have used/endured Windows for about 25 years at work and privately.
5years ago, when my Windows PC crashed once too often, I switched to Apple and haven’t regretted it until recently.
Now I am beginning to have second thoughts with the new and improved OSX 10.11 El Capitan.
The installation already was an absolute disaster. I needed the help of a friend who is a beta tester and wait till 10.11.1 before I could reasonably use my iMac again. After installation, my iMac wouldn’t even re-start.
It’s not a wimpy machine I have:
CPU: i7
RAM: 12GB
HD: 2TB

Two weeks or so, before “installing” El Capitan, I purchased PSE14 (and I had used many previous releases).
After “upgrading” to El Capitan, it has become an utter nightmare.

Working with photos and improving them should be a pleasurable activity and it used to be.
But since El Capitan, it has become an aggravation and an exercise in patience, watching the “new and improved” beachball rotating for extended periods of time.

I don’t have any technical data to prove it, but I believe these problems are caused by Apple’s El Capitan, because of all the other problems it has caused.
I sincerely hope that Apple is not becoming like Microsoft used to be: Not giving a damn about their customers. Just focusing on the bottomline. This is truly shortsighted strategy and will catch up with Apple sooner than later. And they will never know what hit them.

It is now over a month that these problems exist and still no solution on the horizon???
I am holding off installing El Capitan on my wife’s MacBook, until it has stabilised, hopefully with another two tweaks or so?

APPLE: Your customers will watch your beach ball for only so long.

I am also having the difficulty of extreme lag with in my iMac with El Capitan and PSE 14. This is very disappointing.

I am thinking about trying Lightroom, just so I can get something accomplished, but I am not a professional or even an enthusiast really. It's more of a hobby and I think Lightroom may be too much program for what I need. Does anybody know if it works better and PSE 14 with El Capitan?

I'm also just a user but I can tell you that Lightroom works great and it's also a powerful program. Many things what u do in PSE14 u can do also in Elements.

Agree Lightroom is a good product .. but the organization capability and many of the detail function in elements is why I use it. Lightroom is a compliment to it. The freezing is a major issue .. especially if you have been using earlier versions and have catalogues and processes in place with Elements. Adobe compounds the problems with poor communications and even appears to ignore customers.

I, too, have been experiencing unacceptable lag times on my Mac 10.11 OS while using PSE13, particularly in the Organiser. It is getting very frustrating, especially now I have over 195 images I need to review before Christmas.

It appears from these posts, that Adobe is doing the right thing and trying to get a resolution from Apple. Apple, I hope is working on the problem and will have an answer soonish. I am not holding my breath though, as the last comment on this thread was almost three weeks ago.

tusher, i am also waiting for a response. like you 13 has been a nightmare. I now have el capitan and cant use elements properly. Adobe simply told me to upgrade to 14! yet look at the problems users of 14 are having. This company is so dismissive of its customers

I heard from my friend who is an Apple beta tester, that they are working on an upgrade OSX10.11.2. But there is no hard info whether this will finally resolve this issue, which is as old as El Capitan.
As you are having this problem with PSE13 and I have it with PSE 14, I am pretty sure that it is an Apple problem.
As we all know, there is not much love lost between Adobe and Apple.
Maybe a Mexican stand-off???

Even though the Mac OS X 10.11.2 Update (released a few days ago) says it fixes a problem with USB devices, after updating, the problem still remains.
I hope we can get an update from Adobe, as well.

I'm confused. It said that the el Capitan 0S 10.11.2 does work well with the PSE 14. Now I read that the people who have it say that it works very slowly almost to a crawl. So why should I upgrade????? Maybe I should try a new program and leave this mess all behind me!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Elements 14 Performance problems on my iMac system.

I have elements 14 running on an iMAC. The product is slow and freezes .. to the point I cannot use the product. I have versions 6 thru 12 and they all work well .. i declined to get 13 because I had heard there were some issues. I like the advertised features of 14 and bought it. Thru various user groups I'm finding this is a known problem and has not yet been addressed. When using tools, they are very very slow to respond. At some points they freeze the entire system requiring a complete reboot of the computer.

Is there any update on when this will be fixed?

Luca ... boy do I understand. Somehow Adobe got my number from one of the "complaints" ... talked with what I think were developers out of India yesterday. They took a lot of data off my machine and said they would get back. Will keep you posted. Fingers crossed cause when the program works it's terrific.

It is when the problem cannot be reproduced on supposedly identical machines.
Sometimes there is additional software installed that causes issues, or problems with particular hardware (even particular batches of CPUs) causing problems on some machines and not others.
We have several reports of slowdowns with iMac Retina 5K -- yet our identically specified systems show no slowdowns. So it makes sense to gather data on the systems showing a slowdown to figure out what they have in common.

The support team from India that worked with me were professional, courteous and am hopeful the information they were able to pull from my machine will help resolve the issues. I would have no problems working with them again to assist in problem determination and fix.

Chris, what kind of data do you need? It appears problems arise in both Organizer and Editor. If we users have some direction we may well be able to assist in finding a solution to this vexing situation. Should we generate logs? What data would be of maximum benefit? Would a single source contact facilitate data compilation? Has any progress been made on identifying the source(s) impeding performance? I for one have only the Apple OS X 10.11.13 bundle, iGraphic and PSE on my machine and I have problems.
