Elements 13: "Stopped Working" I can't even start the application

Photoshop Elements 13 will no longer load at all from the shortcut on my desktop. If I try and launch it directly from the Organizer .exe file it tells me that it has "stopped working" and that Windows will look for a solution, but all it does is shut it down. I have searched the forums and tried creating a new catalog and repairing the old one but it still doesn't work. I am running Windows 8.1 on a new Lenovo Y50 laptop. I only bought V13 because V12 doesn't support my UHD screen. I can't apply new patches since I can't launch the application

Did anyone ever respond to you? And how did you solve the problem as I have exactly the same now in Nov 2015 with PSE13?

I gave up and now use a free product called Zoner Photo Studio which is OK. I mostly used Photoshop to tag and organise my photos. I attached the responses I got from Adobe and their lack of help to a returns request to Amazon where I bought the software and after returning the disk they gave me a refund. This is a big unforeseen advantage of not buying direct from Adobe. Sorry I can't be of more practical help

Usually crashes at launch are due to bugs in third party plugins or driver (video, printer, etc.) that need to be updated.

Sometimes just resetting preferences will solve the problem (because the crash is caused by a corrupt preferences file).

Thanks John and Chris - no-one from the Adobe site has so far responded but I re-installed it and seems to work (doesn't like my mouse much though!).

Thanks again

It would help if you told us what OS version you were using.
Did you install all the Elements 13 updates?
And tell us what the detailed crash report says (on MacOS it's really long and detailed, on Windows it's short but has the name of the faulting module).

Windows 10. I had upgraded to Windows 10 before installing Elements. It worked for the passed few months (since July) and wihen the upgrade came, I received a message to install upgrade now or when finished working in program. I tried clicking on install now. The next time Elements opened, it again asked to update. This time I chose "upon closing." This didn't work either. After that I just ignored it. It refused to uodate. Three days ago, it just stopped loading. Organizer opens, but editor doesn't open at all. I've been a faithful Elements user since the beginning and each new version gets worse.

What does the detailed crash report say? Check the system event viewer or reliability reports.

I don't know what a detailed crash report is or a system event viewer.
