Photoshop changes brightness of image depending on how zoomed in it is.

Photoshop will sometimes develop a glitch that causes the image that is being edited to change brightness when zooming in and out. I use mask and adjustment layers a lot but I cannot pin point what is causing the problem. When I save the images the final image looks the same so it is only a viewing problem. When I close Photoshop and reopen the image the problem goes away.

In the first image I used the healing brush set to darken mode when I was zoomed out. As you can see very clearly when I zoomed in the line along the rock was exposed since the background got darker.

On a side note: I created a vignette using a curves adjustment layer. Maybe this is where the glitch is coming from?

Additionally, I have noticed that when I create vignettes using a curves layer and layer mask, the brush tool will no longer work on the mask layer.

I'm using a mid 2011 imac running Photoshop 19.1.6

Are you still seeing this? I've got the same issue but in lightroom.
