Just updated my Photoshop to Photoshop CC18 and now I am not able to define the size of my brush with my wacom pen. Using the right mouse key + ALT , it works as it is used to be but using the pen + ALT (using the button as right mouse key) I only can choose a colour. Can anyone help me ?

I have got the same problem. When i click the pen button the brush size selector briefly pops up but almost instantly disappears. I already tried reinstalling/resettting the pen driver, but no joy.

Ok I found a solution for Photoshop. Create a file named  "PSUserConfig.txt" and this file add the line "UseSystemStylus 0" (without the quotes). Then copy this file to
C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2018\Adobe Photoshop CC 2018 Settings.

.

Finally in the Wacom drivers create a profile for Photoshop (if you haven't already) and then go to "Mappings" and uncheck the "Use Windows Ink" checkbox.

These changes will make PhotoShop use a different API for accessing the stylus (WinTab instead of Windows Ink) and with these changes I managed to get both pressure sensitivity and my pen+ALT functionality restored

You just saved my all life! Thanks we have to report it to Adobe and share it during the time they correct it!
I only had to uncheck "Use Windows Ink" for my Wacom Cintiq 27QHD. It workw again so many thanks.

Peu Dias, I think you forgot that disabling Windows Ink also disables proper pressure sensitivity for the pen. At least it does for me. So that is not a solution for the issue.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled resize brush by wacom tablet issue.

after updating photoshop to CC2018 and fall update win 10 is  my wacom tablet (pen) stoped changing the size and hardnes of brushes. "Right" button on pen is set like right and except resizing is working fine. I have latest drivers of wacom, but it was same with driver 6.3.19 and now I'm close to break my intuous pro M by hammer :-) In discussions I've seen this issue last time on june 2017, but without answer. Please save my tablet :-)

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled brush size shortcut key not working [not bracket].

usually old school person use the bracket [] to change the brush size, but i used to change it by using alt+right click (on my wacom pen first click, which is right click) and drag to change the brush size, found this doesnt work anymore after i update the latest version of photoshop cc, i try to reinstall the driver, swap the keyboard input to US, but still doesnt work, but this shortcut can work buy using alt+ right click ( ON MOUSE ), HELP,  I need a ways to solved this asap, rushing school assignment please.

Photoshop CC 2018
Wacom Intuos Pro Med

No pressure sensitivity, even though the wacom driver shows installed and pressure working. Nothing, no user config, nothing works.

Hi Micah,

When you say "no user config" are you saying that you tried the solution that worked for some of the users in this thread and it didn't help you? Just want to be clear.

Thanks,
Hannah

guys follow the "PSUserConfig.txt" method and if it doesn't work try to make the name of the file "PSUserConfig" without ".txt" and keep "use windows ink" checked in Wacom Tablet Properties in mapping tap

Have the same problem since the W10 fall creators update.
Deactivating windows ink does fix the issue BUT when doing so I lose pressure sensitivity. So it is not a solution.
Can't believe such a basic functionality have been broken like that.

@Skippy, have you tried creating the PSUserConfig.txt as I showed in my post? With this setup I have pressure sensitivity in Photoshop even with Windows Ink disabled.

I agree however, that the current situation is less than ideal.

thanks for the assistance - this solution hasn't worked for me though. when i do it, there's no difference in result than just deactivating windows ink - i.e. there's no tablet sensitivity at all. pay for 8000 levels of pressure,  only have the ability to use 1!

windows 10 home
photoshop cc 19.1.0
wacom intuos pro medium pth-660

is there anyone else with a possible solution?

The alt right click issue has been fixed with Photoshop 19.1, so you do not have to use the PSUserConfig file to revert to WinTab. If you do use the WinTab fallback you need to make sure the file name is exactly "PSUserConfig.txt" and the file needs to be in the location specific to the version that you are running. (PSUserConfig in PS2017 location does not work for PS2018)

I just updated to 19.1 after reading this thread and the problem is not fixed. Alt-right-click just gives me the colour picker, not the brush size slider.

i notice that the topic is marked as "solved" even though it seems that there are a number of us still struggling with it...

thanks for your quick response, Mike

however, the alt right click issue has not been fixed in my case. in fact, the alt right click issue is not something i even experienced until updating to PS19.1 .0 .

i have tried installing PS 19.1 (as opposed to 19.1.0) and the problem is present in that one also.  is there anything you can suggest?

Hi - I'm having the same issue with being unable to change brush size pressing Option + hovering the pen on my Wacom and pressing the right click. I'm on a brand new MacBook Pro. Any suggestions on how to fix this in a mac? Best regards Jan

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Photoshop CC 2018: I am not able to define the size of my brush with my wacom pen....

When using my Wacom Intuos Pro, I am unable to change the size  and hardness of my brush (or any similar tool such as heal / stamp tool) using alt and right click (as mapped to a button on the pen).
I have tried the workarounds mentioned in the previous thread, as well as reinstalling Wacom drivers and also Photoshop.
This problem only started when I installed Photoshop CC 2018 19.1.0 . Installing an older version did not solve the problem either.

This problem was mentioned two weeks ago and marked as solved even though the problem persists. I am concerned that the problem is being ignored due to it being marked as solved.

Thanks for the added information, Deniz. Can we try the previous Wacom driver and see how it interacts with Photoshop?

To uninstall the Wacom driver on Win 10:
  • Disconnect the tablet from the computer
  • Press the Windows key on your keyboard, along with the X key, to bring up the Utility menu (in the lower-left of the screen)
  • Select Programs and Features in this menu
  • Uninstall the driver, which may be listed as (depending on model and version):
    • Bamboo
    • Pen Tablet
    • Tablet
    • Wacom
    • Wacom Tablet
  • Restart the computer to complete the removal
To get a new driver - scroll down to Windows - Driver 6.3.25-5 (Win 7, 8 and 10*): http://www.wacom.com/en/support/product-support/drivers

Thanks,
Hannah

So, the problem still persists. Very annoying and CC2018 seems to have so many small bugs it sometimes drives me crazy.. Anyway, my tip for everyone: uninstall Windows 10 fall update (1709), go back to previous version and it seems to do the trick. So I will have to wait, once again, until a permanent fix is available. Whoever will release this patch (Microsoft, Adobe or Wacom). I will subscribe to this  and hope someone can write here if a fix is available.

Have the same terrible bug. I'm quite disappointed in wacom/photoshop policy. This is just one of basic required features, and if it doesn't work - I don't know what to add. Shame.

FCK them all. I spent a lot of money for professional equip. (hardware and software) and now this?
1 month ago was everything without problems (after idiotic fall updates) 14 days ago was the problem back, 2 days ago  (without any my action) was my pen working all right and today I can't change brush size again. I'm uninstaling CC, stop paying and go to steal CS 6 - No updates, No problems.

guys follow the "PSUserConfig.txt" method and if it doesn't work try to make the name of the file "PSUserConfig" without ".txt" and keep "use windows ink" checked in Wacom Tablet Properties in mapping tap

Hi.

Does anyone have any news about the issue being fixed? The way I dealt with the issue was to uninstall Microsoft Windows 10 fall update (1709), which apparently broke Windows Ink or dramatically altered its behaviour. But the bad news is my O/S is lacking behind in security patches, as I can't update to 1709.

It is not fixed. You still have to create a configuration file. I have found help here: https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/windows-10-update-has-broken-wacom-pen-right-...

Unfortunately that "fix" is not a solution for me. If I do that I basically loose the pressure sensitivity which is not an option for me. I would hate to loose 8192 levels of sensitivity  So, I guess it is just more waiting and not update my Windows 10 for a while. Real bummer.

Tmuussoni,

Just to be clear on the steps that you took, you:

1. created the PSUserConfig.txt file
2. disabled Windows Ink

Do you know which of those steps caused you to lose pressure sensitivity?

Thanks,
Hannah
