Photoshop CC: Type missing if not in type mode with sierra

Was completing a project and discovered that when I went from type to select (or any other mode) the type became distorted so that only about 10% of words were visible.  The type layer was at the top of the stack. If I went back to type it reappeared. Since I can't print after upgrading to Sierra, I am having to manage a workaround, so wanted to save as a PDF.  The print doesn't appear correctly on the PDF either.  In the end I had to complete in indesign. I assume this another Sierra photoshop glitch? HELP!

Hi Rebecca,

I'd like to help you, but I'm a little lost as to what's going on from your description.  Photoshop doesn't have modes -- are you talking about Photoshop Elements or Lightroom?  When you mention that the "type layer was at the top of the stack" are you referring to your type layer being the top most layer of your document?  What do you mean that the type became distorted?  Can you post a screenshot?  I can assure you that the shipping version of Photoshop has no problem with text on Sierra -- I use it every day.  There seems to be some sort of disconnect here.

If you would like, I could also do a web-hosted screenshare with you in order to get to the bottom of this problem.  But in any event, could you clarify which app you're having trouble with and what that trouble looks like?

Thanks,
David

As I typed Iknew I wasn't using the accurate diction! I am a largely self-taught user of CC... with plenty of tutorials under my belt but an imprecise use of language :) I am referring to PHOTOSHOP CC.

When I am in TYPE I can read the text but when I go into move or paintbrush, or anything other than type it looks like the top image.  When I save it as a PDF (in order to print because of the known sierra/adobe problem) it saves with the type missing.

I don't know whether this a glitch in this particular file or if it is widespread.  I am quite busy at the moment preparing for a workshop tomorrow... I put together the image in indesign as a workaround and saved it as a PDF there, so it is not urgent today. After tomorrow I will have more time so will try a fresh doc in photoshop with a text layer. I only upgraded my photoshop and Sierra a few days ago and have never had trouble with the Adobe suite before. I saw that my printing problem - it crashes when I try to print in photoshop was a known issue.  I wondered whether this new problem was also an issue.

Best wishes,
Rebecca

Howdy Rebecca,

Well, when you have some time, I'm happy to work with you on this.  I run PS on Sierra all the time and never have any troubles.  What's more, typography is my specialty.  So, ping me when you're ready and we'll do a web-hosted screenshare to set you up right.

Thanks,
David

HI David, I just added type to an image and had no problem with the type in that file.  I am still unable to print though... and got this error message. If you think it would be worthwhile to figure out what went wrong with the type in that other file, I have plenty of time now (when you have time).
Best wishes, and thank you, Rebecca

The print issue is a known issue that we're working on: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-and-mac-os-sierra.html

Go to: https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/photoshop-cc-15-5-1-not-printing-in-os-x-10-1... Click Me Too in the upper right and I will update the thread when the fix is available.

Good Morning, Rebecca,

My day is a little tight right now, but this afternoon I would be happy to do a web-hosted screenshare with you in order to get to the bottom of this.  I'll follow up with email -- just let me know what time (and in what time zone!) works for you.

Thanks,
David
