Photoshop CC: Loses focus when opening the program / keyboard shortcuts don't work

When the program is first opened, the keyboard shortcuts don't work.  I have to click in the program to reestablish focus before they will start working.  Not sure what exactly is going on, but older versions did not have this problem.  I think the last version we were on before this was CS5 or 6 and all the previous versions we used didn't have this problem either.

Sorry, should have had that info to begin with.  I'm running Windows 10 Pro Version 1709 Build 16299.547 on custom Polywell with Intel i7-8700k, AMD Radeon Pro WX 5100, 32GB RAM, Samsung 960 Pro SSD.

The problem I seem to have most often is opening an image to resize it.  I'll open the program, drag the image in, and try to use Ctrl+Alt+I to resize it, but Ctrl+Alt+I doesn't do anything until I click on the program window again.

Weird. I think I'm doing the same operation, but I can't repro. I'm just dragging a JPEG from the desktop on top of the Photoshop application window (both with the Start Screen showing and not showing). After the image shows up I can hit Ctrl Alt I.

It may be because of differences in which panels are showing and other considerations. Can you make a screen recording of your steps? That might give some clues.

It's not doing it for me right now either, but it happens a lot so the next time it does I will try to record it.  But it does sound like you have the process I'm using correct.

Howdy,

There is a known problem with accelerator keys in the latest release of Photoshop on Windows.  About 75% do not show, although they all work -- there is no impact to functionality.  This will be fixed in the next release so that all the accelerators in all the menus and dialog return.

Now, that said, on launch focus for the app bounces all over the place, so if you try the accelerators at the wrong time, I wouldn't be surprised if they fail, much as the app comes into focus even if you minimize it.

Sorry for the inconvenience,
David

I'm not going through the menus, so I'm not worried about missing accelerator labels not showing.  Ctrl+Shift+I is the most common one I use, and maybe Ctrl+N when opening for starting a new document.  I'll try to be more aware of what does and doesn't work going forward.

This has been an ongoing problem since we upgraded to CC from CS5 or 6.  It never used to have focus issues, but it does appear to be what is happening now.

I was finally able to find this post again!  The only thing I have to add is that the focus appears to only be lost when the program is first opened for the day (haven't discovered a different interval or trigger yet, although I do put it to sleep at the end of each day).  After I've run it once, then it appears to keep its focus (at least I haven't been able to reproduce the bug after it has been run once in a day).
