Photoshop CC: Program error when placing file; extras setting not sticking

The current version of Photoshop CC is extremely buggy. First of all, after I place an embedded object once, it will not let me do it again, saying that an error has occurred. Second, it shows "Extras" even when I do not want them to show. I'll hide them, and then they immediately pop back up. CC is not as stable of a product as any of the hard-copy versions I used in the past, and I loathe that I must use it now.

What OS/version are you on? Do you have all the product updates installed? http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/201...

What is the exact error when you try to place a file?

Extras remember the last state. If you open a file, set the Extras visibility settings you want, then close the document, it should remember that state. Resetting your prefs would get you back to the default settings: http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/201...

1) I am using OS X Yosemite, and yes, I have all of the product updates installed.

2) The exact error when I try to place a file is "Could not complete your request because of a program error."

3) I have in fact already tried opening a file, turning the "Extras" visibility off and then closing the document, but alas, when I reopen, the problem returns and continues even if I turn the "Extras" off and keep working. I will reset to the default settings, this is just annoying and I have also had to do it in Illustrator and InDesign.

Did you recently upgrade to Yosemite? Did you have these problems prior to upgrading your OS?

Does Photoshop exit normally? When you say "when I reopen" - do you mean reopening a file or re-opening Photoshop after you have quit it? If that latter, that sounds like preferences aren't being saved.

Photoshop exits normally, yes. When I say "reopen" I mean Photoshop, not the file.

Which Extras are showing when you don't want them to show?

When you hide the extras, how are you hiding them? With Cmd + H? Or by going and in disabling them under View>Show> menu?

If you move a panel out of it's normal position, quit the app and relaunch the app, is the moved app still in it's location?
